● Fenced yard needed: not necessary, but a plus ● Shared walls ok: maybe ● People: all ● Dogs: all ● Other: Charlie is bonded with Queenie and they must be adopted together Overview Meet Charlie, a sweet 6-year-old cream longhair standard dachshund who’s looking for his forever home alongside his bonded companion, Queenie. Charlie is an absolute sweetheart who weighs 18 pounds and has recently been groomed with a shorter coat for easy maintenance. This friendly fellow came to Little Paws through an owner surrender due to medical reasons, and he’s ready to bring love and joy to a new family. Environment Charlie is a well-behaved pup who goes potty outside and does well with regular trips every 4-6 hours (he won’t come tell you when he needs to go, so a schedule works best). He’s got that perfect medium energy level with short walks and playtime fitting his lifestyle beautifully. Charlie loves walks and is great on a leash, making him a joy to take on adventures. While his previous owner said he was happy in his crate and would often go inside on his own, he’s currently doing well in a secured area with gates. Charlie can comfortably be left alone for 4-5 hours and does great overnight. Whether he can be in a home with shared walls will depend on your neighbors/situation as there is some barking — sad when saying goodbye and happy when you return. He’s quiet when you’re gone and he settles down. When his foster family is home, he doesn’t bark at all. Pets & People Charlie is one of the sweetest, friendliest pups you’ll ever meet! He absolutely loves people and has never met a stranger - no warmup time needed with this happy-go-lucky guy. He’s been well socialized and greets everyone with enthusiasm. Charlie gets along wonderfully with other dogs and has no issues meeting new furry friends. According to his previous owner, he was also good with cats. When it comes to treats, Charlie can be a little snatchy (his foster family is working on this), but he’s food-motivated and eager to learn, which makes training a breeze. Transportation Charlie loves car rides, so he’s ready to travel to meet his new family wherever they may be! Location Charlie is available for adoption from Greensboro, GA. Please email with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Charlie is $325.00 *Charlie must be adopted with his bonded companion, Queenie.*

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
