c;€™s back, back again, Puppy’s back – tell a friend! Sadly, Puppy is back at the shelter after being found as a stray and is looking for her new home. A reminder that she does have a history of being a wanderer, so she is looking for a home that is consistent with keeping her on a leash, a secure tie-out, or supervised when in a fenced-in yard. She is a sweet girl who is just looking for some guidance! On arrival back at the shelter, Puppy was seen by the shelter vet and started on treatment for an upper respiratory infection. She also has a history of having skin issues and should stay on a novel protein diet for life. If you are interested in meeting Puppy, please let us know! 05/24/25 Miss Puppy has arrived back at the shelter as a stray and was not picked up by her previous owner. We do not have any new information on Puppy and how she was in her most recent home, but she has been an absolute delight while at the shelter! If you are interested in adding Puppy to your home, please give us a call! 04/28/25 This pretty girl is Puppy! Puppy has been through the shelter as a stray multiple times and defaulted to the borough. She is now looking for her new home and an owner who can keep her safely restrained when outdoors. She is a very sweet girl but is looking for some come continued guidance with obedience training and learning to be the best girl ever! We encourage her next owner to bring her to a basic obedience class with a certified trainer. Puppy did arrive at the shelter with another dog but we do not know the extent of her history with other animals. Please ensure you are making slow, safe, and controlled introductions with any and all new animals! Puppy has exhibited some signs of having a high prey drive, common with the breed, so if you do have smaller animals in the home, please keep that in mind. We do not know if she has ever been around of lived with children. However, she might enjoy having a family to dote on her! Puppy does have skin issues and had a biopsy sent out. The results indicated chronic inflammation, most likely due to skin infection. Her recommended treatment includes a round of antibiotics and 3 rounds of NexGard. Potential adopters should be prepared to follow up with their vet. She has also been doing very well on a novelty protein diet. Her next owner should discuss with their vet on the best ways to keep her both healthy and happy! If you are interested in meeting Puppy, please let us know!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
