an Adoption Application. If you are only interested in temporarily Fostering one of our rescues, please fill out a Foster Application. Meet Toby! Hi there! I am Toby's current foster as of July 2025. 'Here is a summary about this handsome young fellow. Tobs is a healthy 1.5yr old neutered male, nothing to report on his medical and completely UTD Information about his personality and behavior: Toby has had one foster when he was a young pup for about 6 months where he was in a home with a yard and several young roommates, no other pets in the home, he did well. Since January 2025 he has been fostered at casa de arwob where he lives with multiple dogs and cats (different sex/ages/sizes and behavior-personalities) so he is dog and cat friendly. He can go through stages of excitement through the day towards the cats, he will ignore them or want to play with them and of course depending on the cats/kittens personalities its a red or green light. Have cats or want to have cats? contact us and we can help determine if Toby would be good match for your situation. Regarding dogs: he is dog friendly and introduced to the multiple rescues that come and go at casa de arwob there is no problem HOWEVER Toby is not currently a dog park/dog beach kind of dog. He wants to and we have gone but its a 50.50 with other dogs at the parks personalities and if the play gets out of hand. Again, between his shepherd breed and young excitable age PLUS he has never had a home/family to enroll him in dog training ANY dog trainer would tell you 'you don't take dogs to dog parks until they are trained especially recall". If you are looking for a dog park dog this boy is currently not it. Please, take a look at the million videos and pictures we have on his ARWOB biography to see who Toby is and get an idea of how wonderful he without being perfect. Toby LOVES outings, not sure if its his Shepherd breed or perhaps he has some husky being a Baja mutt he could have so many genetics in him. He is full grown at 55 pounds and we keep him active. He ADORES going on car trips, exploring ei going for walks, hikes and he could be a good running partner as he is pretty FAST off leash and he would love an adopter with a large property to just RUN or adopter who is active and will keep him exercised. He does need work on the leash because of his pulling, on a scale 1-10 he is a 5. His current foster has learned that taking 2 long 20 feet leads on outings allows for him to run and burn energy while having him on leash. He is a BRIGHT dog and learns fast. He always sit for food or when he wants something like being petted, treats, leash etc. He seeks eye contact for guidance and he could learn so much more if he had a human who could just work one on one with him. Toby us house, potty and crate trained. He loves to play with toys and a bit of a Kluts at fetch but the way to his heart is always the stomach any edible food or even better bully sticks/benabones will keep him entertained in the Livingroom or crate. He loves people both adult and children BUT he has exhibited some protection or insecurity of the typical shepherd (ei barking at) irrespective of human sex when first meeting (you have to read his body behavior ei waggy tail vs hesitant when new people approach either inside the home or during walks on leash). His original foster and all his roommates where males so its not a male vs female situation but just the whole 'shepherd' personality on new people meeting. Summary: Toby is a handsome loving goofy dog who is fun and a great home companion BUT he will be a good amount of work for an adopter, when going out and being excited. Toby is not well paired for an inexperienced dog owner BUT any dog owner willing to learn and put in the time under a professional guidance ei dog trainer would be fantastic. Having a large property would make things easier but not needed. If you are looking for a coach potato to just lounge at home and have a well behaved/trained dog inside the home, Toby is it. He does need an owner or foster to keep him daily mentally and physically stimulated, he will not do well as a dog who never goes out, unless you have a large property for him to roam and explore. His negatives would be being excited when people come to the home to visit and when going out on walks. If you walk him on areas where there isn't many dogs he is a very good walker, not leash reactivity but excitability which means strong leash pulling when he sees dogs and hence dog training ei leash training is a must. Note: Toby does need a secured fenced yard ei 6 feet or taller through the perimeter. Hope this helps and any questions or concerns email her foster with questions or easier to schedule a call. animalrescuersicloud Toby has sadly lingered too long with ARWOB for that reason we are waiving his adoption fee BUT we will request his adopter signs up with a dog trainer and show proof of his classes, His $250 fee is to be used for the trainer of your choice, We do offer foster to adopt trials which are best especially if you have multiple humans or pets in the house hold. We would love to find a foster for Toby as well, if you can't adopt but would like to help PLEASE contact us to perhaps foster him. Visit ARWOB to submit applications or contact us via email/call his foster will be happy to schedule a call if you want to first talk about him before submitting applications and we could also schedule a meet at a park in the 92111 if you want to meet him in person before submit applications. If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
