, and being near his people. He’s housetrained, great with both cats and dogs, and would do well in almost any home — apartment, house, city or country. Squeaky prefers a calm environment with older kids or adults, as he can get a little too excited around ball play (he really loves soccer and basketball!). Someone who’s home often would be ideal but not a deal-breaker— he’s a world-class snuggler and would happily nap by your side all day. He enjoys walks and is working on basic commands, but his true talent is cuddling. Squeaky does best on grain-free, chicken-free food — and in return, he’ll give you all the love and loyalty you could ask for. Apply to adopt Squeaky — your new best friend is waiting! Best Fit Home: Squeaky is an easygoing, affectionate dog who thrives in most home environments. He would do best in a home without very young children, as he can get a bit excited around balls and rough play. Older kids, seniors, or a quiet household would suit him well. Living Situation: Squeaky is adaptable and can live comfortably in a house, apartment, condo, or rural property. He’s house-trained, crate-trained, and content staying home alone during the day, though he’d love a home where someone is around more often—especially for cuddle time! Lifestyle Match: He would do great with a moderately active family who enjoys regular walks and playtime, but also appreciates a mellow companion. He's got a low to medium energy level, and often needs encouragement to play—he'd much rather nap on your lap! With Other Pets: He gets along wonderfully with both dogs and cats, and has shown no issues cohabiting with them. Potential Challenges: He may get excited around squirrels and balls, and will pull on leash if he sees one. No known leash or separation anxiety. He's working on basic commands like "sit" and "wait", and would benefit from continued training. Exercise Needs: Daily walks and some light playtime are enough to keep him happy. Food & Health: He does best on a grain-free, no-chicken diet, and came to foster eating a fish-based formula. No known allergies or sensitivities. Dog Park Use: Squeaky enjoys dog friends but may find dog parks overstimulating, so introductions should be slow and supervised. Located- Brampton

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
