JARED NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Come meet Jared and other great adoptable cats this Sunday (09/21) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Falls Church, VA (6100A Arlington Blvd, Falls Church, VA 22044)! Name: Jared Best Guess for Breed: Lab / Shepherd mix Best Guess for Age: 7 months as of August 2025 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 40.5 lbs as of 8/31/25 - he is still growing! Gets Along With: Jared does well with other dogs and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog. We haven't seen them with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: DC area foster home Special adoption considerations: Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. Jared is shy and also needs a welcoming resident dog who will help show him the ropes! Jared is Looking For: This young boy is eager to start his new life with his own humans in the DC area and wants nothing more than to walk through the world with all the confidence of a well-loved dog! Right now, the DC area is a huge change from his previous Puerto Rico and he's pretty unsure in this new area. He needs a loving, active family who can take him on lots of walks and bring him for playdates with doggy friends - and a resident dog who will show him how to dog. Jared is most looking forward knowing he's safe and loved - and knowing upon whom to lavish all those adoring gazes he's been stockpiling. Will that be you? What My Foster Says About Me: Jared is incredibly sweet, gentle, and patient. He loves belly rubs, toys, and is very food motivated which will be great for training. He loves other dogs! He is very shy but also really wants to be with his people so if you let him engage at his own pace, you’ll quickly see him begin to blossom and show what a sweet, loyal, loving dog he is. He just needs some time to build that special trust with his human. Jared is a real gem! Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog . Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
