to the shelter as a stray and surrendered over the phone. It was noted that Ruger does have some separation anxiety and can be a bit anxious when left alone. However, his surrendering owner stated that he is kennel-trained and does well in his kennel. We encourage his next owner to discuss separation anxiety and what they can do to help him feel most at ease. Ruger was said to enjoy sleeping in bed under his blanket. He was also said to be housebroken, ride well in a car, and know his basic commands! We encourage his next owner to bring him to a basic obedience class with a certified trainer to continue working on his manners and to learn a trick or two! He may also enjoy scent work classes! Ruger was known to be vocal and will get into trash if left unsupervised. He was said to do well with babies and children! He can be skeptical of new people so proper introductions should be made! Ruger warmed up to the care staff and has loved all the attention! It was also stated that Ruger has no experience with cats and does not appreciate the company of rambunctious puppies. He was stated to do well with older calmer dogs. Please ensure you are making slow, safe, and controlled introductions with all new animals to help set Ruger up for success! Ruger may prefer being in a single pet home. If you are interested in meeting Ruger and have a home that can meet his needs, please let us know!
