ecent owner was not having any luck rehoming her on their own. Daisy really likes to chew and will resort to chewing things she shouldn't if not provided with enough engaging and appropriate chew toys. She was said to get along with the other dog in the home for the most part but would snap at him on occasion, which he did not tolerate well. While at the shelter, Daisy has not been overly thrilled with other dogs approaching her. We are recommending caution around other dogs for this reason. It may be best that she be the only dog in her next home. She was described as having a rough play style but to be outgoing and friendly. Daisy will sometimes whine in her kennel if she can hear exciting things like company happening without her, but she otherwise was said to do well in a kennel. Daisy was said to be wonderfully gentle with the baby in her most recent home and to do well with the other child, who she saw grow up from toddlerhood. She has been known to jump on people and counters and get into the trash when given the opportunity. She has also been known to dig. Providing her with both mental and physical enrichment is a great way to help mitigate these behaviors. She may also benefit form a basic obedience class with a certified trainer! If you are interested in meeting Miss Daisy, please give us a call! 09/21/23 Sweet Daisy is back at the shelter due to no fault of her own. Her prior owners had a new baby and found they did not have the time to devote to her that she deserved. Daisy was said to do wonderful with people of all ages, including babies and children. She was stated to be playful with other dogs and has a calm demeanor around cats and pocket pets. Please ensure you are always doing appropriate introductions with all new animals! Daisy was said to be kennel trained, housebroken, and rides well in the car! In general, she minds well but might enjoy going to a basic obedience class to continue working on her manners! Daisy was described as an outgoing, friendly, and affectionate pup! She has been the sweetest girl at the shelter, and we would love to help her find her new family! If you are interested in meeting Daisy, please let us know! 07/06/22 Aiko (A-eye-ko) previously Daisy was returned to the shelter because the owner said they did not have enough time to spend with her. She is kennel trained, outgoing, friendly, affectionate, rides well in the car and does well with dogs according to her previous owner. She can be noisy, scratch things, jumps to counters to snatch food and will jump on people to say hi. She would love basic obedience classes to learn manners and some more basic commands. She currently knows sit, get in kennel and come here. She is not yet housebroken and tends to uriate when she gets excited. If you have the time for training with this sweetheart, then please give the shelter a call! 06/17/22 This little lady is Daisy. Daisy can be a bit shy at first and may take some time to warm up to her new owners. Her prior owner stated that she was fearful of men. Daisy has already warmed up to her animal tenders and is looking to find that new forever home. Her prior owner did not state if she was housebroken but did indicate that she was kennel trained and knows how to sit! Her prior owner also stated that she likes to play rough with other animals including dogs and cats. Please make sure to do introductions with other critters in a slow, safe, and controlled environment. Daisy is still a young dog looking for an owner who can continue working with her! She may enjoy going to a basic obedience class to work on her manners and help with socialization! If you are interested in meeting miss Daisy please give the shelter a call!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
