Kylo is a male Anatolian Shepherd/Great Pyrenees mix. 5 3/4 years old. He is extremely intelligent, affectionate, gentle, playful & sweet. He loves to play keep away/chase with socks, gloves, slippers, even tissues, which he always gives back unharmed. He loves to sleep next to me. Loves to protect me. He is an exceptionally gorgeous creature. He gets lots of attention and compliments wherever we go because he is so very handsome. He loves to ride in the car, but will bark at other large dogs he sees on the street. He is friendly with kids & grown humans; he is good with small dogs & cats & will even share his food! His best friend is a chihuahua who is not even as big as Kylo's beautiful bushy tail. He is reactive to larger dogs. Kylo is easily controlled on leash until distracted by other dogs, then he will bark & pull. He once barked at a statue of a lion in a driveway :). He does not like moving cars and will lunge at them if they pass too closely. I do not often walk him on the street. He needs a fenced yard. Kylo's ancient breeding is to be a protector. He feels it is his job to guard the perimeter and would do this routinely when we had a big fenced yard. His bark is deep and loud, which he uses to communicate & is his first line of defense when he is on alert to something. Kylo needs a person(s) he can give his heart & unfaltering loyalty to. He also needs a fenced in yard so he can run & play... hopefully with no neighbors close by who might object to protective barking. He is a such beautiful guy....a beautiful Soul. Given the appropriate environment for us to live, I would NEVER be seeking to re-home. He is a very special, very loved dog. He deserves a really happy life, which I just cannot provide for him right now. Email me at shaestorm16hotmail or text me at 828-280-6844 to learn more about sweet Kylo. All Mountain Pet Rescue (Asheville) animals are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered and micro-chipped before adoption. Contact the foster parent or Mountain Pet Rescue at petsmpravl for more information. Please note that visual breed identification of companion animals has been proven to be unreliable, so for most of our animals we provide a best guess at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our animals as an individual and do our best to describe and place pets based on personality not breed label. Mountain Pet Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax deductible charity (EIN 82-3039637) located in Asheville, NC.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
