ained: yes ● Fenced yard needed: preferred but not required ● Shared walls ok: no ● People: all (bonds with women faster) ● Dogs: all ● Other: Roscoe has separation anxiety and needs someone home most of the time Overview Looking for a sweet and snuggly companion who will be your devoted shadow? Roscoe the dachshund might be the loving boy you’ve been searching for. Roscoe is a sweet, snuggly guy with a cute personality. He’s about 2-3 years old and weighs 13 lbs. This handsome black, brown, and white pup came to Little Paws because he was too active for his previous owner, but he’s really just looking for someone who appreciates his loving nature. Environment Roscoe is a medium-energy dog who loves his daily walks and playtime. He’s great on leash and absolutely loves going for walks and adventures. While he’d enjoy having a fenced yard to roam, it’s not a requirement. If he does have one, note that Roscoe has some small prey drive and enjoys chasing squirrels and chipmunks. This sweet boy doesn’t like to sit on tile or hardwood floors (he prefers softer surfaces), and he’s not a fan of rainy weather or umbrellas. He can be startled by loud noises like cars backfiring or fireworks and might try to flee in those situations, though thunder doesn’t bother him at all. Unlike many dachshunds, Roscoe doesn’t like to burrow and instead prefers playing with soft plush toys and balls over squeaky toys. Roscoe does have separation anxiety and really needs someone who can be with him most of the time. He’ll sleep in his crate on his own with the door open, but when left alone he barks, cries and whines (which is why he needs a home without shared walls). He’s happiest when he has his people nearby and never barks when someone is home. Pets & People Roscoe is great with people of all ages, including respectful children, though he can be a bit timid if people move too fast around him. He’s very bonded to his people and tends to bond with women a little faster than men. While he might growl when new people first enter the house and can be timid with strangers initially, he warms up quickly once he gets to know you. Currently in a home without other dogs, he does fine around other dogs he meets and mostly ignores them, preferring to focus on his humans. Around food, Roscoe eats his breakfast and dinner pretty quickly but is extremely gentle with treats. He’s well-mannered and knows to sit before receiving any food. Health Roscoe is currently Ehrlichia positive and Heartworm positive, but with proper treatment he can live a happy, healthy life. Location Roscoe is available for adoption from Hendersonville, NC and he’s perfect in the car - he loves car rides and falls asleep during travel, so he can travel within reason to meet his new family. Please email Twoodward77yahoo with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Roscoe is $375.00.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
