for me!” and then I hope we meet and fall in love and live together forever. Let me tell you about myself. My name is Winston Wobblebottom. I am a 10-year-old French Bulldog. I weigh in at a very healthy 22lbs – and it took me some time to get there (more on that later) so I’m pretty proud of that weight! I am adorable and have a BIG personality. Foster mom says I’m pretty typical for a Frenchie, but I disagree. I think I’m pretty special. One-of-a-kind, if you will. And I’m ready for ALL your love! I bond very easily and quickly. I love fast and hard. I don’t want to waste time, you know? I love all the people I’ve met, and they love me, too! What’s not to love? I’m a delight. I mean, sure, I have challenges… I have IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) This is common in little dogs and super common in Frenchies. It means the discs between the vertebrae in the spine degenerate or rupture. For now I’m fine, you just need to help me get onto and off of things. Eventually I might need a wheelchair. Because of my IVDD, I am incontinent and wear a belly band (foster mom will send some with my forever family when I am adopted.) I like other dogs, but I have been known to resource guard a bit. Just with my favorite toys. And bones. And people. Haha, So I guess I resource guard a bit more than a bit…but I’m easily managed if you pay attention. I live with a bunch of other dogs now and I do fine – I just need to be corrected from time to time. I’m pretty familiar with time out, haha. I am crate trained and love to go for car rides. I want to go everywhere with you, please and thank you. If I have to stay home I’ll do it, but you’re going to hear about it. I value our relationship enough to tell you how I feel about things. My backstory… Early this year I ended up at a shelter in Utah. I was sick. I was skinny and sad and anything I ate came right back out of me. The shelter said “help!” and my foster mom said “me!” and I came to live with her. It’s been a long road, and a lot of vet visits. I am currently on a few different medications to keep me feeling my best. They total about $100 a month. I am such a fun, happy boy! If you think you could be the people for me, apply today! I would love to meet you! Apply to meet me at bit.ly/RRAdoptionApplication

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
