Brittany Dogs For Adoption in Curwensville, PA, USA

Dog Breed: Brittany (medium coat). Hey Everyone, I’m Oboe a super active 2 year old Liver and White male searching for a place to call home Forever! Right now, I’m enjoying the g

ood life in a wonderful foster home here in Northwest PA. I’m up to date on vaccine, neutered, heartworm negative, on prevention, and micro-chipped. I’m mostly housetrained but my foster Mom still keeps an eye on me and takes me out him about every 2 hours just so I don’t forget. I don’t soil my crate, which I’m not a big fan of, as sometimes, I like to squeal in it if I see my foster nearby. However, I am learning to be more patient and my foster Mom is teaching by using the command “enough”. I’m looking for family who is as active as me. A family who might like to go hiking, boating, swimming or are the outdoors type. I don’t tire easily and will need plenty of exercise along with a good size physically fenced yard to play in too. I also LOVE the water! I enjoy splashing in it, taking drinks while I sit in it, I will dive right in or blow bubbles through my nose in it, anything with water! I love going on walks too. My foster Mom says I’m doing fairly well on lead with a firm command to go "easy". I’m also working on basic commands. I’m getting pretty good with ‘come’, but I do need occasional reminders for "wait" (both at doors leading to outside and when exiting my crate). I do well with “off” but “sit” and “leave it” are still a work in progress. I love playing with toys, however toys of cloth are not a good match for me. I do like to shred them into small pieces and have even eaten a few of those pieces. I’m learning “don’t tear it up” with minimal success. I enjoy chew bones, large nylabones and buffalo horns too. My foster Mom says I’m the best at de-stuffing non-squeaky toys as well. I will play fetch, but really don’t like to bring the toy back, instead I much prefer to run off with it. I get along good with other dogs especially younger ones who love to run and play like me. I enjoy chasing bugs, butterflies, and bird in the yard, but I'm not a pointer yet. However, I’m not a fan of cats and it’s recommend my new home also be small dog free. I enjoy people very much and get along great with Women the most. I am VERY timid around men, not in a mean way I just find then scary at times and will run and hide behind my foster Mom. I’m getting better especially with men who are soft spoken, smaller statue and have a higher pitch voice. I have even taken treats from them and let them pet him. However men with larger or deep voice still make me hide and try to get away. I’m good with children but I may knock little one around, so a home with children 8 and above would be best. Oboe’s Forever home should include a loving, patient, and caring family who wants to give him a place to call home, Is that your home?If so, please consider filling out an application for Oboe/PA online at: nbran/adopt/adoption-application. Once your application is submitted the coordinator in the State where you reside will follow-up with you. Need to reach your State Coordinator, find their contact information here nbran/about/state-provincial-coordinators Oboe’s adoption fee is 400.00 which will help NBRAN cover the vetting costs and other expenses associated with bringing Brits like Oboe back to good health and readying them for adoption. Don't live in PA or close by, No Problem! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
