ned: yes ● Fenced yard needed: no ● Shared walls ok: yes ● People: all ● Dogs: all ● Other: Max is bonded with Benji and they must be adopted together Overview Meet Max, an adorable golden honey dachshund with a playful spirit and a heart full of love. Max is a cute and extremely sweet little guy who is about 5 years old and weighs 9 lbs. He’s playful, affectionate, and craves attention and pets from his favorite humans. Max was surrendered to Little Paws and is looking for his forever home—together with his inseparable companion Benji. Environment Max is a high-energy pup who thrives on daily walks and playtime. He’s always on the go and loves walks—he’s great on leash and ready for adventures. While a fenced yard would be nice for this active boy, it’s not absolutely necessary. He is a quick learner when it come to potty training. He stays in a pen when left alone, close to Benji. Max does experience separation anxiety and can’t be left alone for long, but when he’s near Benji, they’re calm and mostly quiet together. He’s not overly noisy, so he’ll do well in a home with shared walls. Pets & People Max is very sweet with people and loves being petted and cuddled. He’s been docile and sweet with strangers—everyone is a potential friend! He’s also very friendly and playful with other dogs. However, Max does have some food resource guarding, which is likely because he appears to have been starved before rescue—he’s very skinny and eats like he hasn’t eaten in weeks. He’ll eat anything you give him and needs to eat separately from other dogs and will eat anything he can get to. Max has an incredibly strong bond with Benji—they’re devoted to each other, snuggle together to sleep, and stay calm as long as they’re together. These two must be adopted as a pair. Health Max can be quite anxious and restless—always moving and on the go. He will need exercise daily and mental stimulation as well. Location Max is available for adoption from Miami, FL and he did great on a 40-minute car ride when picked up, so he’s ready to travel to his new home, within reason from South Florida. Please email siriad81aol with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Max is $375.00

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
