! Summer arrived back at the shelter as a stray and then was surrendered to the shelter. Summer was said to do great with just about everyone. She LOVES people! She also loves kids, but she does not realize how big she is. She can get very excited and accidentally knock little ones over. Please keep this in mind if you have kiddos in the home, as most children may not appreciate this behavior. Summer was said to be kennel trained and mostly housebroken. She does best when on a schedule. She is used to being kenneled when home alone because she will get into things otherwise. Her previous owner said for the most part Summer is an `out of sight, out of mind` kind of dog, but will help herself to anything she can chew if given an unsupervised moment, including colored pencils! Summer needs some help with her manners, and she has been known to jump on people. She knows some basic commands, such as sit and lay down, but she may do well in a basic obedience class with a certified trainer to help round out her training! Summer was said to do great with almost all dogs. There was a very specific dog in her previous home that she had beef with, so use caution and make sure to do very slow and controlled introductions. She will need help with her leash manners, and it may be best to use a harness for her rather than a flat collar. Summer was described as being an outgoing social butterfly who LOVES to cuddle! If you are interested in meeting Miss Summer, please give us a call! 05/29/24 Sweet little Starla is back at the shelter after spending some time in foster due to a littermate testing positive for parvovirus after being adopted. Starla and her remaining littermates tested negative but as a precaution we wanted to observe them. Starla is doing great and eager to find her new home! Her foster stated she is a quick learner and responds well to her name! If you are interested in meeting Starla, please let us know! 05/11/24 15:46 This adorable little team is ready to branch into a league of their own! Remember there is no crying in baseball, but who could cry with these little ones in the room anyway?? These youngsters are a true mixed breed. Their mother was said to be a lab x pit mix, but the rest is a mystery! Remember that puppies are a lot of work, and they will need help becoming potty trained. They also love to chew! If you are interested in meeting one of these ladies or their brother, please give us a call!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
