please fill out an Adoption Application. If you are only interested in temporarily Fostering one of our rescues, please fill out a Foster Application. Meet Truffle! This girl is not only a beauty on the outside but ALSO in the inside! Truffles has stolen our hearts and she would be the most perfect dog if she was cat friendly! I guess there is no such thing as the perfect dog but this girl is pretty close to it. We do not know Truffles breed she is a Baja stray rescued from Ensenada who was in the rural hills fending for herself and trying to feed her newborn pups as well when a good sam encountered the family and helped them to safety. Once the pups were old enough they where adopted and Truffles has been in San Diego since October while we took care of the vetting. She is now spayed and UTD on all medical and READY for adoption. She has no medical or behavioral issues and if you are a home without cats this girl is perfect for you! She resembles the hound breeds like a Dachsund, Rodhesian Ridgeback or even a vizsla breeds. Honestly she has the Doxie face, is there such thing as a Giant Dachshund?! ha ha Truffles is so loving and affectionate towards ALL humans, super dog friendly with dogs of all sizes. Currently fostered at casa de arwob along with several dog friends and also cats hence we would love to find her a foster with no cats. We can keep her away from them since she is not horrible but she is very focused on them and prefer she is not having to live in a home exposed to them. She is easily controled around them since she listens well but a home with NO cats for long term is needed. She is wonderful with kids but she does like to stand on her two hind legs and place her front legs on your body which means kids can be intimidated by that if not familiar with dogs. She is crate trained, potty trained and house trained. Not a barker at all but can bark if somethign seems off outside the home. She has not shown any reactivity towards dogs or people during walks or separation anxiety when left home but she is crated when home alone. She makes friends with all dogs but her current bestie is Frida a 30lb shepherd mix and those two are adorable together (Do not need to be adopted together but if you are looking for a med and large beed dynamic duo they are both equally amazing for first time dog owners) Truffles has started to go on dog park outtings and loves it. She rides well in the car and will be the most wonderful addition to any house hold without cats! ha ha She would be a great dog for working adults, families or retirees BUT because of her placing her whole body against people, she may not be well matched for someone with balanced issues like walkers or canes UNLESS she is trained to not jump on them first. READY for adoption and currently also searching for a foster. ARWOB is not holding adoption events at this time and if serious and interested in possibly adopting this rescue dog we request adoption applications are submitted on our home page at ARWOB once received we will text or email to schedule a call in the hopes we can move fwd to schedule a meet and greet. We do NOT place holds on rescues, only submit applications if ready to adopt. Typically adoptions are the same day of scheduled meet and greets assuming it goes well and there is a connection between both parties. The adoption process can be quick as soon as the next day or two OR up to a week depending on the rescue inquiring and applicant getting everything in order like landlord approval, etc. If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
