happy to be soaking up all the love from the volunteers. I’m now ready to find a wonderful home of my very own with a family to love and be loved by! I hope to meet them very soon! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I met other dogs at Mostly Mutts and liked them; however, I should not live with other dogs due to some guarding that I did when visiting a home. / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and I think older kids are best. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a sweet, people-loving pup with a wonderful mix of gentleness and enthusiasm. I can be strong and energetic on walks – and I definitely love to jump for joy – so I’m still learning my leash manners. But during bath time and ear cleaning, I was calm as can be, standing in the tub and leaning against the edge like a pro. I’m playful, friendly, and smart, and even though I can be a bit excited and full of energy, my kind heart and lovely personality always shine through. The shelter environment is a bit stressful for me, so I’ve started on 2 anxiety medications that I think I’ll be able to wean off once I’ve settled into my new home. / Energy level: 5-7. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I'm in the Mostly Mutts University training program and have already mastered the ‘sit’, ‘come’, and ‘leave it’ commands as well as how to accept friendly strangers without jumping, and I look forward to learning more. / The crate isn’t my favorite place, but I’ll go back into it especially if a treat is involved. / My potty manners have been good on the shelter schedule. In my temp. foster home, I had a few accidents and some excited peeing while I was settling in, so I’ll do best with a consistent routine as I adjust. Once I understand the routine, my potty habits should continue to improve. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I really love people, and toys are always a big hit with me, too! I enjoy playing fetch, running outside in the yard, and just being an all-around silly, goofy girl with you! As we get to know each other, I’m sure we’ll discover even more things we’ll enjoy doing together. / Other than being a bit stressed in the shelter environment and not really wanting to go back into my crate, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. As stated above, I’m on 2 anxiety medications for shelter stress that I think I’ll be able to wean off of as I settle into my new home. I’m a fun-loving active girl looking for the same in my new family. My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
