e than ready for a life of comfort - and he deserves every bit of it. Halsin is a lovely Pomeranian boy who strikes the perfect balance between couch-potato charm and outdoor-adventure enthusiasm. He’s equally happy loafing by your side or joining you on a leisurely walk, and he loves the rain just as much as clear skies. No weather fazes this guy. Halsin is emotionally sensitive in the sweetest way. He absolutely thrives on being near his people and is a true shadow dog for anyone who wants a quiet, affectionate companion. Snuggling, walkies, and constant gentle companionship are his love languages. He would shine in a home where someone works from home or simply enjoys having a dog as a steady presence throughout the day. Halsin is crate trained and nondestructive. He sleeps well in his crate overnight (though he’d rather happily curl up in bed with you given the chance!) He is potty trained, with only a couple marking incidents early on when new dogs were introduced inside the home. He is great with grooming once basic trust is established — nails, brushing, baths… especially if rotisserie chicken is involved. Halsin learns quickly, responds beautifully to gentle correction, and genuinely wants to please. He’s emotionally sensitive and very intelligent. Halsin gets along wonderfully with other dogs and is endlessly patient with his rambunctious foster sister. His corrections towards her have been few and appropriate. He would do well in a home with or without other dogs, though if there are other pets, he still needs plenty of human interaction — people are his true north. If you like a very physically affectionate dog that wants to be on or around you at all times, then this is your boy. He would not be a good match for anyone who prefers dogs that are more independent and like to have their own space. He warms up to new people within minutes, especially women (his clear favorite). With men, he can be briefly cautious, but he has warmed quickly to his foster dad and kind male visitors. His instincts from his past sometimes make him alert around strange men (especially at night) or at the door, but he is not a barker by nature otherwise. He will sometimes be protective of his foster mom on walks (again mostly at night) towards strange dogs and people. It took about two weeks for Halsin’s full personality to blossom in his foster home, but once it did, a warm, goofy, deeply affectionate boy emerged! He’s the kind of dog who weaves himself into your routine and your heart. His foster family describes him as one of the hardest dogs not to keep, and that says everything. Halsin is extraordinary. He is ready for a home that will adore him, include him, and let him finally live the cherished life he’s earn. He will be vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. His adoption fee is $450 We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
