EDUCE THEIR ADOPTION FEES TO $300 IN HOPES THEY'LL FIND THEIR FOREVER FAMILIES SOON!** Are you ready to add some fun and excitement to your life? Say hello to Shelby, an energetic pup filled with curiosity, enthusiasm, and love. This playful girl is a bundle of joy, always eager for adventure and ready to explore. Shelby is a friendly girl who loves making friends with every human and dog she meets! Her cheerful, upbeat, charismatic personality brightens any space she enters, and she will be the sunshine and love of your home. Shelby was rescued from an overwhelmed animal control facility in rural Kentucky, along with her six littermates, when they were just eight weeks old. Shelters and rescues across the US are facing a crisis, as adoption rates have slowed significantly over the past 18 months, while surrenders and intake numbers have been rising. In previous years, puppies in shelters and rescues were usually adopted quickly, often as soon as they became available. Unfortunately, in the past year, it has become more common for friendly, adoptable dogs, including puppies, to remain in shelters or foster homes for several months before finding a family. As victims of this current shelter and rescue crisis, Shelby and four of her littermates have been in foster care while waiting for their forever homes. These sweet pups are more than ready and eager to find the loving, permanent families they deserve. Approaching 10 months old and weighing just over 50 pounds, she will grow into a larger dog (over 65 pounds) when fully mature. A DNA test on two littermates shows their breed mix as 35% Bluetick Coonhound, 27% German Shepherd, 23% Husky, and 15% Staffordshire Terrier. She's making good progress with crate training and housebreaking, but is still a pup learning the ropes. Potential adopters should expect to continue her training and provide the guidance and structure all young dogs need to develop into the best canine citizens they can be as adults. She's smart as a whip and eager to please, making training sessions with Shelby enjoyable. Shelby is a dog with heart and spirit, curious about the world and always ready for new adventures. She will make a wonderful and loyal companion for an active family! Shelby is fostered in Chicago, and meet-and-greets are by appointment only after an adoption application has been received and approved. For more information or to apply, please email palsplace1hotmail or visit our website at palsplacerescue. Correspondence from the rescue may end up in spam or junk folders. Please check these folders regularly if waiting for a response. Shelby's adoption fee is $300 (reduced from $475 thanks to a generous sponsorship). This fee helps cover her medical expenses while in our care. She is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccines, and on monthly flea and heartworm preventatives. • All of our dogs reside in foster ho

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
