myself at animal control, and I’m so grateful to be in the Mostly Mutts family now. I got to spend about 5 days in a temporary foster home and had fun with them and now I’m ready to find my very own family. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I met some other dogs at Mostly Mutts and I liked them, and I played very nicely with the 3- and 9-year-old dogs in my temp. foster home so if you have a nice dog that would like a puppy friend, let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids at Mostly Mutts yet, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a gentle, sweet pup with a happy spirit and a heart full of love. Everyone says I’m a doll baby – I was calm and delightful during my bath, even sat still for ear cleaning! I’m playful, fun, and full of joy, and in my temporary foster home I listened well and was told that I was amazing and truly a wonderful dog. / Energy level: 5-7. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I'm in the Mostly Mutts University training program and have already mastered the ‘sit’, ‘come’, ‘leave it’ and ‘drop it’ commands and I look forward to learning more. I’m looking for a family that will continue to teach me everything I need to know to grow up and become a wonderful adult dog – including starting to train me not to chew on you and the kids so we’ll all be happy – so get ready for some training with your new best friend. / My crate manners were good in my temp. foster home as well as at Mostly Mutts. / I’m having some accidents on the shelter schedule, and I had a few in my temporary foster home, but I was improving well, so keep me on a good schedule in my new home and I think I’ll pick it up pretty quickly. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love treats, zooming around the play yard, playing with toys and people, and just spending time with people – it’s my favorite way to have fun! / I can’t think of things I don’t like yet since I’m so young, but I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I've started my puppy shots, but you will have to finish these for me as I grow. I’m also micro-chipped and spayed. If you’re ready for the fun and excitement of having a puppy as well as the training commitment, then let’s meet! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
