he nice volunteers, who spend time with and take great care of me. I hope to meet them very soon! I came in heartworm positive, but thankfully I’ve received my treatment and completed my rest period. I got to participate in the prison/foster training program and learned a lot! Now I hear that I’m ready to find a wonderful family of my very own – where I can love and be loved furever! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I recently met dogs at Mostly Mutts, and I didn’t really know how to play with them, but I didn’t show any aggression. I think I’d prefer a more mellow dog that won’t jump straight into rough or paw play, so if you have a nice doggie like this at home, let’s meet and see if we can be pals. / Cats unknown, but I’ve shown interest in chasing squirrels and chipmunks on my walks. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, and I don’t like being restrained and I can be sensitive to some touch, so I think older kids (10 and up) that will follow this guideline will be best – let’s meet if you have kids like this. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m described as a friendly, happy, and very sweet girl who might feel a little nervous at first - my photo shoot had me a bit unsure - but once I get to know you, my pretty personality really shines. I love giving kisses and will continue to layer them on as long as you let me! / Energy Level: 5-7. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I’m a proud graduate of the Mostly Mutts University training program so I’ve learned the ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘down’, ‘come’, ‘drop it’, ‘leave it’ and ‘place’ commands. I also use proper door etiquette and have good leash manners as well as accept nice strangers without jumping. Mostly Mutts offers free lifetime training classes for all their adopted dogs, so let’s continue my training together. / At the MM shelter, I enjoy spending time with the volunteers and the crate is not my favorite place to go back into, but once in it, I have been quiet. In the prison/foster training program, I slept outside of my crate at night, and I did well in my crate during the day for short periods (around 2 hours at a time). I’ll continue to work on this with my trainer at Mostly Mutts. / I’ve had very good potty manners on the shelter schedule as well as in a temp. foster home I visited, so hopefully that will be the case in my new home, too – and perhaps I won’t need a crate. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love treats, being petted, and just being with my people – sharing quiet, loving moments together is on my favorites list. I also like taking a little extra time to get to know new people. Once I’m comfortable with the volunteers, I enjoy sitting on the bench outside the shelter with them and showering them with sweet kisses. / I’m not a fan of being rushed or restrained and I’d rather be with you than left alone. I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. Since I wasn't kept on heartworm prevention in my previous home, I’m HW positive. Thankfully, I have completed my heartworm treatment and rest period, and I am ready to get back into a regular exercise routine. Local adoption would still be best for my heartworm re-check in mid-August. I was nervous and reacted negatively when being restrained during vetting, so we used a muzzle during that time. I may need it for grooming, too, but we’re not sure yet. I’m trying out a calming collar along with some anxiety medication at the shelter to help me with my alone time as I love being with people. I’m a nice dog looking for a wonderful family that will make sure I feel loved and at home! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
