type to rush into new situations or fling herself at strangers—and that’s part of what makes her so special. Sweeney believes love should be built, not rushed. At first, she may hang back, observe, and look to her trusted people for reassurance. New environments and unfamiliar faces can feel overwhelming for her, and she prefers not to be touched by strangers right away. But give her a little time, patience, and kindness… and something magical happens. Once Sweeney decides you’re her person , you can do no wrong in her eyes. She will adore you with her whole heart and love you unconditionally.
In her foster home, Sweeney is a calm-yet-playful lap dog who enjoys affection, playtime, and the company of other small dogs (she gets along wonderfully with them!). She’s intelligent, has basic training, and is mostly potty trained—though she’s used to a doggy door, so she’ll need some understanding as she adjusts to a new routine.
Sweeney has a moderate energy level and enjoys a balanced life: relaxing close to her people, playful moments, and a peaceful home where she feels safe. She can be a bit vocal when other dogs bark and may react in new or unfamiliar situations, so a patient adopter who understands shy or insecure dogs will be her perfect match. She may do best with respectful older children (10+), or in an adult-only home that can let her set the pace and build trust naturally.
If you believe the best relationships are built on trust, patience, and quiet devotion, Sweeney might just be your soulmate in a tiny, fluffy package.
Sweeney is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 01/24/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 8:30am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Click here to learn more about the FTA program. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care.
