Mutt Dogs For Adoption in Candler, NC, USA

Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Carmel is a 4-year-old sweetheart who’s still learning that the world can be a safe and loving place. He may be a little nervous at first, but once he realizes he

’s okay, he attaches hard — following you from room to room, hopping into your lap the second you sit down, and soaking up all the love he can get. Carmel is friendly and affectionate, with a clingy, loyal nature that makes him an excellent companion for someone who wants a true shadow dog. He’s living peacefully with two dogs and a cat and happily coexists with them all. He’s even tried to initiate play, but when they play back, his shy side comes out — confidence-building will be key for this sweet boy. Like many dogs still learning the ropes, Carmel has some manners to work on. He can get a little mouthy when he’s excited and sometimes likes to put his paws on the counter. He’s currently working on crate training and may bark a bit at first, but he settles down and naps once he feels secure. Carmel will thrive with a patient, loving adopter who’s willing to continue helping him build confidence and polish his manners. In return, he’ll give you unwavering devotion, endless cuddles, and a heart that loves hard. If you’re looking for a loyal best friend who just wants to be close and belong, Carmel might be your guy! Caramel is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, dewormed, and started on monthly flea/heartworm prevention. His adoption fee is $250 and you can apply to adopt at mpravl. All Mountain Pet Rescue (Asheville) animals are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered and micro-chipped before adoption. Contact the foster parent or Mountain Pet Rescue at petsmpravl for more information. Please note that visual breed identification of companion animals has been proven to be unreliable, so for most of our animals we provide a best guess at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our animals as an individual and do our best to describe and place pets based on personality not breed label. Mountain Pet Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax deductible charity (EIN 82-3039637) located in Asheville, NC.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
