ly raised her puppies in foster care, Flo has since spent the last year and a half as a cherished member of a family home. She is exceptionally gentle with children and has lived happily alongside three young boys (now ages 6, 6, and 8). Flo truly shines when she’s able to form close bonds and soak up one-on-one affection. In the home, Flo is a delight. She is fully house trained, knows her basic commands, and is a champion cuddler. While she happily follows household routines, she’ll never pass up the chance to curl up on the couch or sneak onto a bed if it means being closer to her people. HER IDEAL ENVIRONMENT Flo is an athletic, curious hound with a love for exploring the world through her nose. Because of this, a securely fenced yard is required so she can safely sniff, play, and enjoy outdoor time. She will thrive in a home where gates are kept closed and her environment is set up for success. UNDERSTANDING HER SOCIAL LIFE Flo prefers to be the only dog in the home. While she can find unfamiliar dogs stressful—particularly those passing by her space—she does best when she doesn’t have to share her home or attention with other pets. A hopeful note: Flo has shown that, with time and very slow introductions, she can build a comfortable relationship with a specific dog in a calm setting. She simply isn’t looking for a canine roommate. WHY FLO IS LOOKING FOR A NEW HOME Flo is deeply loved, and this transition is being handled with care by her rescue to ensure her long-term success. As a sensitive hound who thrives on routine and predictability, Flo does best in a quieter, more controlled environment. A busy household with lots of daily activity can be overwhelming for her, even with the best intentions. The rescue is seeking an experienced, understanding adopter who can provide Flo with a calm, structured home where she can relax, feel secure, and truly flourish. FLO WOULD BE A WONDERFUL MATCH FOR: An active individual or family who enjoys walks and outdoor time A single-pet home where she can be the center of attention A securely fenced yard and predictable daily routine An adopter familiar with hound behavior or open to learning (Flo is currently supported with a low dose of Prozac to help manage environmental stress) If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who will repay your love with endless devotion and snuggles, Flo is ready for her next chapter If you are interested in adopting/meeting , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: .starfishanimalrescue/adopt/dog-adoption-application . Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will send to the foster family to set up a meet! The adoption fee of $150 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed! *please note that we are a foster home based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Thank you for your understanding.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
