ars Weight: 6 lbs House-Trained: In progress (frequent potty breaks required) Crate-Trained: No crate required when left alone Good with Dogs: Prefers to be an only dog Good with Cats: Not tested (not interested in other animals) Good with Kids: Yes Energy Level: Low (morning burst, then relaxes) Fence Required: No Special Traits: Professional cuddle bug, belly rub enthusiast, rarely barks Why You’ll Love Isabella: Total lap dog who loves hours of cuddling Very sweet and submissive personality Rarely barks Adorable morning routine (runs to the kitchen wagging!) Loves belly rubs and will gently paw for more Sleeps most of the day beside her person About Isabella’s Breed: Miniature Pinscher mixes are often loyal, affectionate, and people-focused companions. While some can be energetic, many mature into devoted lap dogs who thrive in calm, stable environments. They bond closely with their people and love being included in daily life. Isabella’s Story & Personality: Isabella is a tiny girl with a huge love for her person. Her favorite place in the world is right next to you — or better yet, in your lap. She adores belly rubs and will gently paw at you if you stop, always hoping for just a little more love. She has a small burst of energy in the morning (especially if cheese or pepperoni might be involved!) and then happily spends most of the day relaxing and sleeping near her human. She is very sweet, submissive, and rarely barks. Isabella would do best as the only pet in the home, as she is not interested in interacting with other dogs or cats. She truly wants her person all to herself. She is currently working on housebreaking and does require very frequent potty breaks, as she urinates often and does not use pee pads. Because of this, she would do best in a home where someone works from home or is home most of the day and can patiently continue her potty training routine. She walks well on leash and does not require a fenced yard. Her ideal home would be calm, relaxed, and focused on companionship. Isabella’s Ideal Home: Only pet household Calm, low-key environment Someone home most of the day Patient adopter committed to frequent potty breaks A person who loves cuddles as much as she does Ready for Endless Belly Rubs and Devotion? If you’re looking for a tiny shadow who will happily nap beside you for hours and greet you each morning with a wagging tail, Isabella may be your perfect match. Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. To ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: crisisdogsnc/dog-adoption/. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
