ere able to bring me into the Mostly Mutts family! I definitely needed their loving care, as I am heartworm positive. I'll be treated for that soon and hope to be with my new family before my treatment starts. It’s also evident that I have had puppies in the past, but those days are now behind me too, thanks to Mostly Mutts. I’m ready to start the good life with my new family! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I recently met other dogs at Mostly Mutts and we got along – though I did not initiate play with them. I seem to prefer the company of people more, so if you have a nice doggie at home, let’s meet and see if we can be pals! / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: The volunteers say I am ‘a very good girl’, and I bet you will agree! I’m friendly and super sweet, and I really, really love people. I might seem a little shy at first, but once I know you’re kind, I just want to be close and snuggle. I’m calm and gentle, but I’m also a strong girl. I sit very nicely for treats - I try so hard to do everything right. The shelter bath was scary for me, especially the sprayer, but I did my best. The shampoo and scrub seemed a lot like cuddling, so that was fine. The rinsing part with the spray was harder, and I felt really brave to get through it. Afterward, I gave kisses because I love people. Though I’m nervous sometimes, I’m also full of love and ready to make you smile! / My energy level is 4-6. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I'm in the Mostly Mutts University training program and have already mastered the ‘sit’ command. I look forward to learning more! Let's continue my training together with the free lifetime training classes that Mostly Mutts offers for all their adopted dogs! / My crate manners are good at Mostly Mutts. / I've been having some accidents on the shelter schedule, so please keep me on a good schedule, so I can master my potty skills. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I’m not super interested in toys yet, but I sure do love people, so I bet you can show me how much fun toys can be. Treats are great, and I do a wonderful ‘sit’ for those. A fun-loving and social girl, I’m sure we will find lots of fun things to do as we make great memories together as a family! / I may need extra time to adjust to new situations, and – other than those pesky baths, like all dogs, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. Since I wasn't kept on heartworm prevention in my previous home, I'm HW positive. The good news is that I'll be treated for that in April and Mostly Mutts will cover the cost of that treatment with their vet, so local adoption please. I hope to be with my family before treatment starts! I am looking for a loving home with a great furever family! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
