year-old Border Collie (yes, I have the brains and the beauty), weighing in at a very dainty and elegant 50 pounds. I’ve got this whole “gentle lady” thing down to an art form — I don’t lick (you’re welcome), but I will softly nuzzle my nose into you like I’m telling you a secret. Which I probably am. My biggest secret is that my first owner passed away and I'm looking for someone to fill the hole in my heart <3 Let’s get the important stuff out of the way: I am fully house trained and kennel trained. Zero accidents. Gold star behavior. HOWEVER… I do have some thoughts about the kennel situation. Mainly that I’d rather not. I might sing you a little bedtime song (okay… I bellow) for a bit when you put me in, just so you don’t forget I exist and belong somewhere softer… like, say, your couch. Or your bed. Or directly next to you at all times. Speaking of which — once I warm up (I just need a minute to make sure you pass my vibe check), I will become your loyal little shadow. Bathroom? I’m there. Getting ready? I’m supervising. Sitting down? Perfect, I’ll be at your feet. Existing? I support you. I absolutely adore humans, and while I get along great with other dogs (even puppies!), I do appreciate polite introductions. If someone gets a little too in-my-face, I’ll kindly let them know, “No thank you, personal space please.” Boundaries are important, you know? I am very patient though! Let’s talk food. I’m… selective. Meals? Meh. But snacks? Oh, I’m listening! Bananas, raspberries, cheese, bread? Yes, yes, YES, and yes. Blackberries? Absolutely not. I have standards. I’m the perfect mix of playful and calm. I love a good game of chase with my dog friends, but I’m just as happy lounging like a queen on the couch or curled up at your feet. Toys? Not really my thing. Companionship? That’s my jam. I prefer a calm, cozy home — loud noises aren’t really my favorite. I’m more of a “let’s relax together and enjoy the quiet life” kind of girl. Oh , and one more thing: I love being brushed. Like, love it. Spa day? Yes please. Bath time? Hard pass. We don’t need to discuss it. My eyes will tell you everything I’m thinking (which is usually something along the lines of “you’re my person now”), and if you give good ear scratches — we’re going to get along just fine. If you’re looking for a gentle, loyal, slightly dramatic, snack-loving best friend who just wants to be near you and love you quietly… I’m your girl. Have your people call my people: bit.ly/RRAdoptionApplication All my love, Willo

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
