el: high Potty training: pee pads Fenced yard: yes, required Shared walls: not suitable People: adults and older children Dogs: small dogs only Other: currently doing well on a weight management plan Overview Lil Bit has a personality that fills any room she walks into. This sweet 2-year-old long-haired red mix is game for just about anything life has to offer, as long as she gets to be part of it. Lil Bit came to Little Paws after the heartbreaking loss of her owner. She deserves nothing less than a loving forever home, and she's ready to pour every bit of her affection into the right family—she’s waiting with many kisses. Environment Lil Bit is high energy and loves her daily adventures. She happily keeps pace with big dogs on woodland walks and is a joy on leash. She'll need a securely fenced yard to roam and burn off that enthusiasm. She uses pee pads indoors and is still working toward fully outdoor potty habits, so patience and consistency will help her get there. She uses a pen rather than a crate and is comfortable in that setup. When her foster leaves, she does protest a bit vocally, but there's no destruction—she settles down, especially with the company of other dogs. She's happiest with canine housemates around. Because she can be chatty, she'll do best in a home without shared walls. Lil Bit is also currently on a weight management plan; a combination of regular exercise and a weight control diet is already showing results, and she just needs to shed a few more pounds to reach her healthy weight. Her new family will want to keep that momentum going. Pets & People Lil Bit has settled into a multi-dog household with small dogs of all ages. She's adaptable and social with her canine crew but doesn’t do well with larger dogs. With people, she can be wary when meeting strangers on the street, but bring her into a home environment and she does wonderfully. She does best with older children because she’s a very food-motivated girl and small hands holding snacks could be tempting for her. Location Lil Bit is available for adoption from Fairmont, WV. Please email Juliejohnsonlittlepawsdr with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Lil Bit is $375.00.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
