mail or (720) 800-2461. Meet Kumara! Kumara is a 7-year-old, spayed female Bull Terrier mix weighing approximately 40 pounds. She is up to date on vaccinations and has no known health issues. Kumara is truly the ultimate companion dog. Whether you're spending the day relaxing at home, going for a drive, running errands, or heading out on a hike, she is happiest simply being by your side. At around 7 years old, she has the perfect balance of energy and maturity—she still enjoys walks, playtime, and adventures, but she's long past the chaotic puppy stage. She loves car rides, affection, playing fetch, and going for walks. Most of the time, Kumara has a calm, easy-going temperament and is content just hanging out with her people. Of course, she has her goofy side too! She occasionally chases her tail, gets the zoomies, and can often be encouraged into a full zoomie session by stomping your feet on the ground. Her silly personality is part of what makes her so lovable. Kumara is fully house trained, crate trained, and knows a variety of basic and intermediate commands including sit, stay, come, free, lay down, roll over, spin, and recall. She walks nicely on a leash, though she may pull a little at the beginning of a walk due to excitement. She is highly responsive to correction and eager to please. One of Kumara's most impressive qualities is how well-mannered and aware she is inside the home. If you throw a toy across the room and it lands near furniture, she'll slow herself down and carefully retrieve it rather than crashing into things. She understands boundaries well and settles easily in the house. Kumara enjoys playing with other dogs and has done very well with them. However, she has shown a strong interest in chasing cats, so a cat-free home would be recommended. She would do best in a home with older children who understand how to interact respectfully with dogs. When young children become very loud, rowdy, or are roughhousing, Kumara can become overstimulated and is happiest when separated from those situations. She has never shown aggression in these circumstances, but recognizing her comfort level is important for her success. Kumara is not a fan of lakes or large bodies of water, grooming days, fireworks, or thunderstorms. These situations can make her anxious, but she remains manageable and has not shown aggression during them. Due to changes in my family's circumstances, I am looking for a loving home where Kumara can continue to receive the time, attention, and affection she deserves. Her ideal home would be with an individual, couple, or family with older children who are looking for a loyal companion to share everyday life with. She thrives when included in her family's activities and forms strong bonds with her people. Kumara is an incredibly loyal, loving dog with excellent manners, a playful spirit, and a heart of gold. She has been a wonderful companion, and I am committed to finding the right forever home where she can continue to thrive. If you're interested in meeting Kumara, please reach out and tell me a little about yourself, your family, and the home you could provide. A home visit and adoption fee will be required to ensure Kumara is placed in the best possible home. PLEASE NOTE: The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter. Shelters usually guess at the breed, so there is no guarantee, as we don't DNA test our foster pets. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
