ness, energy, and second chances. Not long ago, Ava's story could have ended very differently. She was spotted being pushed out of a car and left on the side of the road — confused, scared, and completely alone. Thankfully, a kind-hearted finder scooped her up, held her close, and gave her the safety she so desperately needed. From there, Ava's new chapter began. Despite the betrayal she experienced, Ava continues to choose people. Ava is affectionate, trusting, and incredibly people-focused. She bonds quickly with her people, loves attention, and is happiest when she's included in the action. With her adorable ears and short legs, she appears to be a Cattle/German Shepherd/Corgi mix, and she has the intelligence, loyalty, and energy to match. Ava is an active young dog who loves to run, play, explore, and stay busy. She would thrive in a home with a securely fenced yard where she can stretch her legs and burn off energy. She isn't a couch potato—she's looking for a family that enjoys walks, playtime, enrichment, and making their dog part of everyday life. One of Ava's favorite things is playing with other dogs. She would likely enjoy having a friendly canine companion who matches her playful style and energy. She has a social, fun-loving personality with other dogs and enjoys having a buddy to romp around with. Ava has also shown that she settles nicely after exercise. Once she's had a chance to get her energy out, she's happy to relax nearby, soak up affection, and enjoy spending time with her people. She has a wonderful balance of playful and affectionate. Ava is looking for a home with adults or older teenagers where she can relax, build strong bonds, and truly thrive. Because she's not comfortable around younger children, we're seeking a family without little ones. Ava would do especially well with adopters who appreciate intelligent working breeds and are committed to continuing her training, providing structure, and giving her the physical and mental exercise she enjoys. Ava is fixed, micro-chipped, and up to date on vaccines. Her adoption donation is $500. - Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. After all these dogs have been through they deserve a loving, committed home.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
