e, I promise I'll show you just how special it feels to earn the trust of a shy dog. The people who know me best will tell you that underneath my timid exterior is a sweet, affectionate pup who loves to snuggle and simply be close to the people I love. Once I feel safe, my personality blossoms, and there's nothing I enjoy more than making my people smile. When I first arrived at the shelter as a stray, the world felt like a very scary place. I wasn't familiar with walking on a leash, and the busy shelter environment was overwhelming. I was so frightened that I barely wanted to eat. Thankfully, I was given the chance to move into a foster home, and that's where everyone started to see the real me. It turns out I'm a pretty smart cookie! I learned my daily routine quickly, mastered `sit` in no time, and I'm always excited to learn something new. I love positive encouragement and genuinely want to make my people proud. I'm still polishing my house manners and crate training, but I'm eager to keep learning with a family that's patient and consistent. One thing that gives me confidence is having another dog around. I absolutely love my canine friends, and they help me feel brave when I'm unsure about something new. Because of that, I'd really like a home with another friendly dog who can help show me that the world is full of good things. I've also lived with young children and done well, but I'll still need a family that understands I like to take introductions at my own pace. My perfect family will have previous experience with dogs and understand that trust isn't something you rush, it's something you build together. Because new people and places can still make me nervous, my family will need to meet me several times before I go home so we can get to know each other. I'll also need a family that's mindful of my tendency to bolt if I'm frightened, helping me stay safe while my confidence continues to grow. The best things in life are worth waiting for, and I think I'm one of them. Watching a shy dog discover that she's finally safe is a pretty incredible experience. Every little victory becomes something to celebrate- the first tail wag, the first cuddle, the first time I look at you with complete trust. Those moments mean everything to dogs like me. If you're the kind of person who believes that patience, kindness, and understanding can change a life, I would love the chance to meet you. I may need a little extra time in the beginning, but I have a feeling we'll both discover that the journey is more than worth it. If this dog has been successful in our play groups it is not a guarantee that a dog will be social with other dogs in their home or in public settings. Dogs are individuals and have personality conflicts, just like us. Play groups do not guarantee that territorial or resource guarding issues will not surface in the home. While play groups do help us get to know the dog's better, once they are adopted their new environments and new relationships will influence their behavior in ways we cannot predict. Your dog’s adoption fee includes: - Current age-appropriate CORE Vaccines (Rabies/DHPP/Bordetella) - Heartworm Tested - Current on NexGard PLUS Monthly Preventative Chew (Flea/Tick/Heartworm Preventative & Dewormer) - Spaying or Neutering - 24-Petwatch Microchip Adoption fee: $185.00 Per state law, ALL ADOPTERS must purchase a non-refundable 2026 dog license at time of adoption for any canine three months and older. The cost of the license is $11.30. (Senior Citizen or Person with Disability-$9.30) Leash and collar included

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
