int size but has a big girl personality! She is fearless and loves other dogs and great with cats. In her foster home, she has been with both big and small dogs. She loves to wrestle and bite her foster dog friends in their ankles to get them to chase. She loves chasing her balls and anything crinkly. She is very friendly and smart - learning touch and sit! She is great with potty pads and sleeps quietly at night after a little complaining. She loves to go in yard to play with her leash since she is so tiny. A fence even with small animal fencing won’t yet be safe for Queenie so she will need yard supervision and a leash since she is also quick on her feet. Queenie likes to grumble when playing and might be chatty as she gets older. She would love another dog to play with in her forever home. Would do best with smaller breed experience. She does still bite and nibble which is age appropriate so does need toys/treats and redirection. Queenie loves to be held when she isn’t running, wrestling, playing fetch. She also loves curl up in her donut bed to observe the room and nap with her friends. Like every Queen she is selective with her food and the color of her water bowls and prefers a variety of wet food and white bowls only. She also likes her treats to be broken up small. Queenie needs to be supervised and continue her crate training since she still doesn’t understand appropriate chewing. Her perfect family would have time home to snuggle and play, another dog to chase or wrestle with and an understanding of small breeds/puppies. Queenie will also need puppy school in a few weeks to keep her on the right course for learning and socializing. If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: .starfishanimalrescue/adopt/dog-adoption-application . Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will be in touch! The adoption fee of $550 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm, and any other necessary medical treatment to ensure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe the breed, since our pups all come from shelters, we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed! *Please note that we are a foster home-based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Thank you for your understanding.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
