rule outlines a newly rescued dog’s adjustment: 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn routines, and 3 months to feel fully at home. Sidecar starts out as a pretty timid houseguest. He was unsure of the foster family dog in the beginning. But he was IMMEDIATLY drawn to the two adorable children in the home. But as we approach the 3rd week, Sidecar's playful side has fully emerged! He loves to chase balls and his foster dog sibling; Sidecar loves to wrestle with the other dog! He is in love with his foster dad! His love for his foster family will easily transfer to your family! Men, women, children...he loves everyone. Sidecar ’s affectionate and will paw at you for attention in the cutest way! He really is a special little guy (with the world’s cutest underbite). Sidecar is two years old, potty trained, has lived with a cat, and can coexist with a canine sibling - a mellow, confident canine brother or sister would be ideal. Sidecar has found his bossy foster brother to be a pretty fun playmate. He’d also be just fine as an only dog. Really, Sidecar just wants a family - whatever that may consist of - to love him and show him some patience as he adjusts to a new home. He’s still getting used to walks (he may not have gone on many of those in his former home) but his foster mom is working with him on that. On the plus side, his exercise needs don’t appear to be too high, so any potential adopters don’t need to worry about fitting daily hikes into their schedule! A nice neighborhood stroll will make Sidecar a happy boi! Sidecar is a sweet little guy who, with patience, can most likely adapt to any home. Sidecar is 2 years old and 15lbs. Apply to adopt Sidecar today! Grateful Dogs Rescue incurs substantial veterinary and other expenses in rescuing our dogs. In order to recoup some of these costs, we request a tax-deductible donation for each adoption. The suggested donation for Sidecar is $300. If you are interested in adopting Sidecar, please complete our online adoption application at .gratefuldogsrescue/adoption-process/ . One of our volunteers will get back to you. Adoptions are local, confined to the SF Bay Area. See our other available dogs at .gratefuldogsrescue/available-dogs/

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
