d Pug mix—with a compact 17-pound frame, expressive eyes, and the kind of lovable face that is hard to resist. He has moved beyond the puppy stage, but he still brings plenty of playful energy, curiosity, and joy into every room he enters. This little guy has a big personality. Doug is confident, curious, and people-oriented, with a loyal heart that wants to stay close to his humans. He loves being near people, following along with daily activities, and soaking up affection whenever he can. Simply put, Doug is a true lover boy. Playtime is one of Doug’s favorite things. He loves toys enthusiastically and is always ready for fun—sometimes bouncing from one toy to the next because everything looks exciting. He also enjoys playing fetch and would thrive with someone who can give him short walks, interactive toys, and positive outlets for his playful spirit. And he loves being on the couch like considering it “his place” either playing or napping while a human is nearby. Doug is smart and responsive. He already knows “no” and “sit,” and he listens well with gentle guidance. Like many excited little dogs, he may jump when he sees a person because he wants to be close, so continued positive reinforcement will help him polish his manners. He may whine at first when placed in a kennel, but he settles when told to stop. He will do best in a home that can offer love, structure, and plenty of appropriate chew toys. Doug does like to chew, and if he cannot find a chew toy, he may choose something on the ground instead. Keeping toys nearby and redirecting him kindly will help set him up for success. He is also alert and aware of his surroundings. Doug responds to loud noises, but he recovers quickly, showing a resilient and adaptable nature. With patience, routine, and reassurance, he has all the makings of a wonderful companion. Doug would be a great match for a family, couple, or individual looking for a devoted small dog who wants to be part of everyday life. If you are hoping for a playful best friend, a couch snuggler, and a loyal little shadow, Doug Chug may be the rescue dog you have been waiting for. Doug was found as a stray in a park with his mother and his sister. The finder contacted 4 Lucky Dogs Rescue to help him find a permanent home. Doug is potty trained and enjoys going potties outside. He has had a couple of accidents inside the foster house because of learning the new routine. The adopter will need to continue working with Doug to make sure he understands potties are outside only. The average lifespan for this breed of dog is 15 years; therefore, Doug’s adopter will need to be prepared to keep him for around 14 more years so he will not have to move to a different home again. Doug’s adoption fee is $620. This dog comes microchipped, neutered, up to date on all necessary vaccines/rabies shots, dewormed, and heartworm tested being negative. He is currently being fostered in the Plant City/Tampa Florida area. ----------------- ***We are a foster-based rescue with no shelter or facility to view our dogs, and our address is a mailing address only. Please be patient as we are an all-volunteer rescue team, and our rescue dogs are in various loving foster homes throughout West-Central Florida. As a general rule we try to limit our adoptions to within the state of FL. If interested in one of our dogs, please fill out an application at .4luckydogs, and we will contact you by phone/text if we feel your application is the best fit out of the ones received.***

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
