Meet Monti, a young purebred dachshund with a stunning long red coat, likely under two years old and still growing into his 8 to 10 pound frame. Monti's original family gave him to a cousin who wasn't home often, and after escaping twice, that family made the difficult decision to surrender him to Little Paws. Since then, he's shown just how happy and resilient he is. He's always smiling, always curious, and always ready for whatever comes next. Environment Monti is a high-energy pup who needs daily walks and playtime to keep him happy. He's working on his potty training and currently uses a pen, though because he's so small he can wiggle through little gaps, so a secure setup is a must. He'll fuss for about 20 minutes when first left alone before settling down to sleep, and in a short test run of a couple of hours, he did just fine. He's still learning to walk on a leash and tends to zigzag along, but with a little practice he'll be a pro. He'd do equally well in an apartment or a house, and he's not a loud barker, so shared walls are no problem for this guy. Pets & People Monti is a little shy with new people at first, often ducking away until he realizes there's nothing to worry about. Once he warms up, he melts into belly rubs and soaks up every bit of attention he can get. He's been fully introduced to other dogs in his foster home, and he's already shown a lot of interest in playing with other dogs. He does great with food and treats, and travels like a champ in the car, usually falling right asleep. One quirk to know: Monti is a bit of a humper, so he may need some gentle guidance and redirection as he learns his manners. Health & Special Needs Monti is still finishing up his intake vet visit and is being treated for a UTI. He's a little underweight and his meals are carefully monitored. His new family should be prepared to follow up on any care his vet recommends. Location Monti is available for adoption from Miami, FL.
