my foster home. At first, I wasn't quite sure what was happening, but after a couple of days, I realized something wonderful: I was safe. Right now, I'm living with three much bigger dog siblings. My foster brother Archi is a handsome 93-pound Catahoula mix who loves to run and play with me. We sometimes have little disagreements like brothers do, but we always make up. My foster sisters, Lola and Koda, are about to turn eight years old. I do my best to convince them to play with me, and every now and then they give in! Mostly, they watch over me like loving big sisters and let me shower them with kisses. My foster mom says I'm a world-class snuggler. During my first couple of nights, we slept on the couch together. She somehow managed to sleep curled up like a pretzel while I stretched out and got comfortable. Then I received a very special privilege: I became the only dog allowed upstairs! Now I get to sleep in a big, fluffy bed with my head on a pillow. Honestly, it feels like sleeping on a cloud. I sleep soundly through the night and only snore once in a while... or so I'm told. When I wake up each morning, I'm full of excitement! I zoom downstairs, bounce around like a kangaroo, and run as fast as my legs can carry me. My family calls me "Taz" because of all my goofy energy. I don't know exactly what it means, but every time they say it, they laugh and give me hugs. I've also been working hard on gaining weight and getting healthy. I was pretty skinny when I arrived, so I've been enjoying lots of tasty meals and snacks. My favorite treat? Sardines! Foster Mom says they're good for me, even if she thinks they smell funny. One of my favorite moments so far was nap time with my foster family. I curled up in Archi's kennel while Lola and Koda rested nearby. Being surrounded by my furry friends made me feel like I truly belonged. I recently attended my very first adoption event at Petco, where I met my new best friend, Nala. We became instant friends! Everyone thought she was my mom because we look so much alike. We'll even be spending time together at Camp Bow Wow. I'm not quite a year old yet, so I'm still learning about the world. Every day my confidence grows a little more. I've discovered that I love running, playing, cuddling, making friends, and most of all... children! Kids are some of my favorite people. If you're looking for a loyal best friend, a cuddle buddy, and a happy-go-lucky adventure partner, I might just be your guy. Love, Moe

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
