the right someone. Our goal is to match each dog with the home that fits them best and each home with the dog that will sing to your heart. Ready to adopt? No Want To Know More About Me? Text Novak to 864-441-9075 for my full story - we'll share everything you need to know! Here's Your Quick Peek: Novak is 11.9 pounds of personality wrapped up in a long-haired Chihuahua mix with the most wonderfully expressive eyes we may have ever seen. He absolutely adores people and would rather be beside his human than almost anywhere else. At about 4 years old, he is affectionate, adaptable, curious and just opinionated enough to keep life interesting. Please note - if you want to skip the text and go straight to the application, you can find the link here: .carolinapoodlerescue/application/ Must have: A human who wants a devoted little companion and will patiently continue his house-training routine. Bonus points if there is room in the big human bed for a canine snuggle buddy! Exercise: Moderate. Novak enjoys walks and especially loves investigating, sniffing and seeing what is going on in his world. Best with: Someone who wants a true companion. He can be an only dog or live happily with other well-mannered dogs, large or small. Not ideal for: A home expecting a completely house-trained dog on day one, or one with large dogs who don't respect the little guys. Energy level: Moderate Novak is an awesome, versatile little dog who could be just as happy in an apartment in the city as he would be living in the country. He rides beautifully in the car, is doing great as we refresh his leash skills and, once invited into bed, settles right down and becomes an amazing little snuggle guy. Good with dogs: Yes! Large and small. If a big dog gets rude, Novak will give one sharp “stop that” bark to remind him that little dogs have boundaries too — and then he's off to enjoy life again. Good with kids: Not yet evaluated Cats: Not yet evaluated Fun fact: Novak has opinions, but he rarely needs his voice to express them. With those incredible Marty Feldman eyes, who needs to talk? Just LOOK at him! Potential Adopters Dogs can’t drive - and since we’re busy taking care of them, we can’t either! Please check your potential BFF’s location and make sure you’re comfortable traveling to meet them. Want updates and ways to help? 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
