re now looking for loving forever families. Swiss and Colby are precious lovebug littermates who were rescued from an overburdened animal control facility in rural Kentucky. They are currently in a loving foster home in Chicago, waiting to meet their forever families. Their mother is a purebred Boston Terrier; their father is unknown. The other half of their parentage may be unknown, but whoever daddy is, he produced some adorable little fellas described as looking like giant Boston Terriers or miniature Boxers! Weighing 35 pounds at 8 months of age, their expected adult size falls right in the middle of the size difference between these two breeds. Fantastic medium-sized pups perfect for urban or suburban dwelling! Swiss can be a bit bashful when meeting new people and is cautiously curious initially. A few gentle pats, kind words, and maybe a little yummy treat or two, and Swiss is fast friends within a few minutes! Like most puppies, he's energetic, playful, curious, and eager to explore the world around him. He'll thrive in an active household that can provide plenty of mental and physical stimulation throughout the day, plus the routine, guidance, and structure all developing puppies need to mature into the best adult dogs they can be. Swiss loves exploring on walks, wrestling with other pooches, collecting toys and bones, sunning himself on the porch, and snuggling with his humans. He is crate trained and making excellent progress with his housebreaking when on a regular schedule. Swiss has had a good start and a solid foundation but is still a young dog learning the ropes who just needs a little polishing work. Potential adopters should be willing and prepared to continue working with him on house training and basic manners. He's smart as a whip, very food-motivated, engaging, and eager to please, which makes training sessions enjoyable and fun. Swiss is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and started on monthly flea and heartworm. He's a healthy, happy fella ready to live life to the fullest. All he's missing is a family to share his love with. Interested in meeting this cutie patootie? Swiss is fostered in Chicago, and meetings are by appointment once an adoption application is submitted and approved. His adoption fee is $475 and helps to cover his neuter and medical care needed to prepare him for adoption. *For more information or to apply, please email palsplace1hotmail or visit our website at palsplacerescue. Correspondence from the rescue may end up in spam or junk folders. Please check these folders regularly if waiting for a response. *All of our dogs reside in foster homes, and meetings are arranged by appointment only after our adoption application has been completed and approved. *Unfortunately, we cannot place holds on our dogs for more than three days after an application has been approved, and we have reached out to schedule a meeting. Please do not apply to adopt unless you are ready to welcome a dog into your home within three days of applying. *ADOPTION APPLICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE FROM THE RESCUE MAY END UP IN YOUR SPAM OR JUNK FOLDER. If you are waiting for our reply, please check those folders regularly.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
