l pounds underweight but very well behaved and loving. She is extremely smart and learned our routine quickly and has never had an accident in the house. Peach knows sit, stay, wait and leave it. She of course loves her food but has not exhibited any food aggression or resource guarding behaviours with people or dogs. Peach gets along well with all types of other dogs but I think she would do great as the only dog in a home as well. Peach has not shown aggression towards cats but rather tends to get very excited and interested. I believe with time she will learn to ignore them as she has already started to show improvement in a short time. Peach gets along fantastically with kids and loves to cuddle. She is crate trained but does enjoy sleeping in our bed at night and sleeps soundly through the night. Peach has no interest in chewing or tearing things up and can be trusted with childrens toys, shoes etc that may be lying around the house. Though a quiet and reserved girl while lounging around the house, Peach can occasionally be vocal when left in her crate. However, it is not long lived and she continues to improve the longer she is with us. I can't say enough good things about Peach. She is truly a sweetheart and we are lucky to have her in our home! Please Note: We are all volunteers and busy taking care of our foster dogs so please take the time to fill out our on-line adoption application if you are interested in more information about any of the hounds that we have for adoption. Filling out our application does not obligate you to adopt in any way. It does, however, help us to determine if the dog that your interested in would be a good match for your family and lifestyle. All of our dogs are fully vetted. They have been vaccinated, altered, microchipped and heartworm tested and on prevention. VISIT COONHOUND COMPANIONS WEBSITE TO SEE WHY ADOPTING A COONHOUND CAN BE A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE! www.coonhoundcompanions.com ADOPTION FEE: $400.00 LOCATION: Peach is currently in foster care in Ohio. With the help of volunteers, transportation to her forever home in OH, MI or Ontario will be arranged. Don't let distance deter you! If you would like to give this beautiful girl a forever home please fill out our on line adoption application at www.coonhoundrescue.ca/adoption-application

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
