ur Frequently Asked Questions and Adoption Processed Explained documentation. FOSTER HOME NEEDED Statistics Name: Ender Breed: Shiba Inu Mix Age: 4 Years Size: Medium lbs. ~Medium range: 26 - 60 lbs Adoption Donation: $180 (applicable sales tax included). Adoption fees may be paid with cash or check. Other: Neutered Male, vaccinations current, microchip, Older considerate children only Ender is hoping you will pick him to take home forever! Foster Home Feedback * Older considerate children only 5/30/17: I only meant to take Ender for a weekend kennel break; however, he was such a fun houseguest that I decided he could stick around. Although he's pretty laid back, he also has a fun and spunky personality. We've nicknamed him "Wigglebutts" because of his adorable wiggly rump. I can't help but giggle at Ender because he's so cute. He's pretty much a normal dog...he hates baths and LOVES tearing the stuffing out of toys to find the squeaker. Ender also loves walks but pulls on the leash because he's so excited. My roommate took him for a run and said he was surprisingly a great running partner! He reported that Ender runs with a loose leash and slows down when you do. Ender also has catlike agility, so a dog gate will not contain him; he will jump right over it. Because of his ability to jump up on things easily, he could use a little training on what he's not allowed to be on. He seems very smart though and should catch on easily with correction. He gave me quite a few laughs when I was testing to see if he was crate trained. The first few times I said "kennel up," he would jump up on top of the kennel and lay down. It only took a couple of treats and some redirection, and now he goes inside of the crate when I ask him. He is quiet and calm while in his kennel. 5/22/17 Volunteer Feedback: ADOPT THIS GUY!! I took Ender home for a weekend kennel break and he is super cool. He settled right in, making himself at home quickly. I feel like he would adapt very well to a new family situation since he is so easy going. I have a 10-year-old female Lab, and he has been very considerate of her. Ender plays nicely with her, but also gives her space when she's had enough. Ender is super adorable and melts my heart when he wags is stubbly little tail! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
