breeder who stated she was the last of the litter and they couldn't sell her. Her little body was flea infested and covered in ticks that made her anemic due to all the loss of blood. We pulled her into emergency rescue, not only did she need lots of TLC but the shelter was very full so they had no space for her. Zara came to us scared and very dirty, it was clear she had been living outside and was not socialized. We gave her 3 baths and picked off a ton of ticks. Then gave her meds to kill off the fleas and ticks that remained. Over the next few days Zara felt much better and started coming out of her shell. Zara had unique markings on her coat. She is considered a piebald husky. This means she has a rare genetic trait that gives her a different pattern on her coat. Many people do not know what a piebald husky is, because it's pretty rare. :-) Because of this we believe she was the leftover puppy not only because of her eye, but because she didn't look like your standard husky. Sadly Zara was born with a glaucoma on her right eye. This means bacteria got inside her little eye before her eyes opened ruining her chance at every seeing out of that eye. Because of this we gave her eye drops until she was old enough for her eye surgery. She had eye surgery in early Aug, and was spayed at the same time. She did wonderful with the surgery, and bounced right back to her normal, husky howling, energetic self the next day. She didn't even let her e-collar cone get in the way. She truly has the best spirit! Since being in foster we have noticed Zara is shy in new places, and around new people. She will back away and observe the situation. Having another dog around who is more outgoing brings out the best in Zara. Becuase of this her new home is required to have another active outgoing dog. Zara is great on leash, crate trained, and house trained. She does need work on resource guarding bones from other dogs. Her resource guarding is not major, and with some work I think this issue will go away. Zara is looking for a home who can give her lots of walks and adventures! She needs a 6ft fenced yard since she is an energetic husky. She will likely grow to be able to jump a 4ft fence. She is cat, and dog friendly. Zara would do better with older respectful kids. Her new family should also be willing to do basic obedience training with her. Zara is a chewer being a puppy and cannot be left alone unless crated. Husky experience is a plus. Zara is spayed, up to date on vaccines, on monthly heartworm/flea tick meds and ready to go home with you! If you have additional questions please email Megan her foster mom at MegansHuskies@gmail.com. If you wish to adopt please fill out an application we will contact you for a meet and greet after your application is processed. Her adoption fee is $225.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
