Foster Home Feedback 8/24/18: I am such a great traveler! I rode in the back seat for almost an hour yesterday and slept most of the time. Even while I was seeing the doctor, I was very calm and relaxed. I was very happy to get home tho' and even greeted the little doggy with happiness and playfulness. I’m doing such a good job that my foster mom took down my kennel because I don’t need it anymore and can sleep where I choose. I don’t bark in the night and hardly bark at all! I love to drink water and make such a mess of it that my foster mom moved the water dish out on the porch, I don’t mind as long as I have a full bowl! I did do a couple of bad things tho...my foster mom had to run to the store and while she was gone I knocked over the garbage can and dug through the trash...and took a slice of pizza off the counter, so my foster family is very careful about where they put stuff now. 8/20/18: Hi, Daisy Mae here...I came to my new foster home yesterday. I was very calm and patient on the car ride and so happy to see the big back yard I’d get to play in! There was already a little dog living here. He was very nice and we got along right away. There were some dark places in the house that scared me a little so I just didn’t go into them. I didn’t cry or fuss at bedtime. I was being a 'big' girl. Today was a bright sunny day so the dark places were gone and I explored the whole house! My new foster family has a doggie door I can use whenever I want to go out - and I wasn’t afraid at all to use it! There are so many butterflies to chase! I’ve been busy with that all day. My new fosters seems really nice and I love them already! 7/2/18: Daisy Mae is a great older dog! She's house and crate trained, to the extent that she willingly goes into her crate to nap. We have two other dogs in the house, one alpha and one submissive, and there have been a couple instances where she reacts to the alpha dog's aggression but is easily separated; most times, she does fantastic with both. We also have two kids under the age of 3 and she does well with them (we do supervise their interactions). Daisy Mae loves to take treats out of their hands but doesn't love when they accidentally step on her. No aggression from her, but she removes herself from the situation. Daisy Mae knows a ton of commands! Sit, shake, lay down. She walks like a dream on the leash and usually follows what you tell her. She is amazing but has a couple of quirks. You'll want to move all the food on the counters, putting them out of reach because she likes to surf for treats. Daisy Mae also LOVES her people and gets very sad if you leave her sight. She does tend to whine/bark at night if she can't see you, but is fantastic when you're around her the other hours of the day. Daisy Mae would be an amazing addition to any family and would shower them with love and kisses! 6/23/18: Daisy Mae knows a lot of commands: sit, back, down, stay, and come, plus a bunch of tricks. She is an all around great dog! To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: .4luvofdog

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
