Foster Home Feedback * NO Cats 3/15/18: Eleanor is a wonderful dog that is super sweet and playful. She would be great with another very playful and tolerant dog, preferably middle to large sized, or she would be great as an only dog. She loves to play and can be pretty persistent, so you want a dog that will stand on its own. Right now Eleanor is living with two dogs and two cats. The dogs are all herding breeds so there is a lot of energy in the house. My other German Shepherd and Eleanor play wonderfully together outside for hours and hours. My Border Collie doesn’t want much to do with her, so if Eleanor tries to engage with him, he can stand his ground. She keeps trying and then takes the cue. When Eleanor is trying to engage play, she will bark. It is not aggressive, just talkative and persistent. If you have another dog, I don’t know that I would recommend an apartment. If she will be the only dog, then there is a possibility it could work. Eleanor is very smart and learns really quickly and wants to please. She does need some training and has picked up on so much already. Eleanor bonds with her trainer so I think this would be a great activity for the adopter, to do some training and walking with her. This morning I walked all three dogs for the first time. After a couple of minutes, they all walked well together. Eleanor can live with cats, but it won’t come for free. What I mean by this is, she isn’t aggressive, but curious. She knows the “look at me” when the cat is there and that is a great exercise for her. When she sees a cat run out of the corner of her eye, she does go into search mode, but this is also something that she can be distracted from. She took a couple of cat claws to the face from my cat and was fine. She really wants to smell the cats and even tried to bark and engage my braver cat in play. I was able to discourage her from this but I still monitor the situation. So I think that someone who is willing to do the training and make sure she is exercised so she isn’t only looking to a cat for play and to burn her energy, then she will be ok. Eleanor loves to bond and stay close to you, she kennels well and is an awesome dog. I think she is going to make the greatest and most bonded friend for someone that is willing to give her some walks for exercise, some training, and discipline. The love you get in return with that super cute black, fluffy face will be priceless. 2/22/18: We’ve only had Eleanor for 16 hours and this is what I know in a very short time... I picked her up after her spay, and she ran up to me, covering my face with sloppy puppy kisses! Definitely loves her humans! She is also dog-friendly despite my own dogs wanting absolutely nothing to do with her! Eleanor has pottied outside every time we go out so there have been no accidents in the house. She is definitely a puppy. A BIG unruly clumsy puppy with absolutely NO manners! She jumps on us and pulls me down the street while on walks! She definitely needs some obedience training. She did sleep well in her crate last night so all in all, Eleanor is settling in nicely! To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org
