He was born on 12/17/2023 and is ready to find his forever home. Hershey's Mom, Honey, appears to be a lab mix and pictured above. She weighs 50lbs but we feel that Hershey will larger when full grown. He is a big bundle of joy! Hershey is a handsome, almost 3 month old Labrador Retriever/hound mix dog who currently weighs 13 pounds. Hershey is a typical pup who is very friendly, curious, active and loves to play with other dogs. Hershey is a very smart boy and eager to learn. He loves to please and will do anything for attention. He loves to be outdoors so he would do well on hikes/walks and outings. Hershey is a high energy puppy who loves zoomies around the yard and has a great time being outside. Soon we will start leash training him. Hershey is working on housetraining. He is young and it is a work in progress. He needs to go out to the bathroom every 2-4 hours. At night he sleeps in his crate in our bedroom. We wake up around 2 am and take him outside. He has not soiled in the crate when I leave him for a couple of hours. He does not like the crate but he will go in on command. We continue to work on helping him find his crate to be a good place. Hershey has not been around children, but I see no problem there. Older children will be better because he is a puppy that has sharp teeth and he will chew and nip. Hershey’s favorite things to do are, cuddling and playing hard with is foster siblings, chewing his Nylabones and Kongs. He's a smart boy who knows the command sit and will be easy to train. Hershey is still a puppy and loves to chew. He will be a happy active boy as he gets older and will need a family who will help him work out his energy. After he has run his zoomies, he does settle down and quietly stays in my office and entertains himself with his chew toys. Hershey has only one set of puppy vaccines, so he will still be susceptible to diseases. The adopter will need a home that has their own yard. Hershey cannot live in multi-family buildings where he would be sharing common space where other dog may have been. He cannot take potty breaks where other unknown dogs may have walked until after his second vaccine around 3/10. Puppies can be a lot of work but they are SO worth it. They will be your loyal friend for life. Puppies can nip and bite and may not be appropriate for young children who are not aware of this trait that all puppies go through. Any child in the home under 6yo should have prior experience around dogs. Puppies this age will need to be taken outside on a regular basis to become fully housebroken . Adopters who are not home during the day will need to have a plan which includes how to manage potty breaks. EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Honey's puppies were born the day after Best Friend Pet Adoption admitted pregnant Honey into our rescue. They have all been in a loving foster home but are ready to find their forever homes now. Could one of those homes be yours? Applicants must live no further than one hour from Raleigh/Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian /volunteer for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized once Hershey is altered at 5-6 months old. Adopters must be willing to bring their puppy to the Raleigh/Cary area for all medical care needed. Foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions. We therefore require applicants to live within one hour drive of Raleigh/Cary NC.
