le girl back. Her favorite activity is dragging dog beds around the house, and then rolling in and under the dog beds. If you know the Pekingese breed, these rolling and "redecorating" activities are most likley familar to you. Pika Pika is shy when meeting new people (particularly men), but once she’s comfortable, her puppy-like personality shines. She loves to play with the other small dogs in her foster mom’s home. We prefer her adopter have experience with the Pekingese breed and be aware of how important it is to keep her safe so nothing happens to her good eye. She is doing well with house training and leash walking, but loud noises or strange objects can startle her on walks and she will balk. Pika Pika will do best in a home with another small social dog, preferably Pekingese, so she can continue to watch and learn from the other dog. She walks best when she’s with a social doggie companion. She is VERY fast shooting out the door, can jump high and gets really fired up doing yard and house zoomies, especially in the afternoon and evening before dinner and "sofa-time." Her foster mom can barely get meals ready fast enough for her. Pika Pika tries to help by demand-barking, but if that doesn't work, then bed dragging is her second choice. WE REQUIRE AN ALL-ADULT HOME WITH A SECURELY FENCED YARD. The secure fence must be 4ft or higher, gaps no larger than 1 1/2 inches, which is attached to the home. An invisible fence, enclosed patio or terrace without grass, temporary fencing, dog pens or dog lots or community shared fencing (dog park) are NOT considered secure fencing. If your fencing has "puppy pickets" (or is supplemented with garden fencing) it needs to be at least 36 inches high from the ground up AT THE LOWEST POINT. No exceptions. The adoption range for this dog is limited to NC, SC, VA and East TN. If you are interested in adopting this dog, contact h2hadoptionsgmail. There is an application process and adoption fee. We are an all-volunteer organization, and in addition to saving dogs, we have other responsibilities, so we appreciate your patience and understanding during this process. Response time can take up to 5 business. Please inquire only if you are willing to come to Greensboro, NC to meet the dog after we schedule your home visit. We do not ship dogs or put them on transports. Veterinary Care: All Hart-2-Heart Rescue foster dogs are spayed/neutered, current on heartworm prevention, parvo/distemper, bordetella, and rabies vaccines, and are professionally groomed and microchipped. As needed, our foster dogs have teeth cleanings, extractions, bloodwork and other diagnostic testing. Adoption Fee: $500

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
