    Peppa

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Labrador Retriever
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). We recently rescued sweet Peppa from HCAC. She had been at the shelter for a week when we learned about her and got her out of there right away. She had suffered some kind of trauma causing her to be paralyzed from the waist down. After spending a few nights at our ER vet, VERGI, we took her to Texas A&M to the vet school. Her CT scan showed fractures at L6 and L7. Unfortunately, she has a serious urinary tract infection and her bladder was expanded more than capacity because she sat at the shelter for a week without anyone eliminating her bladder. Good/bad news- because of the length of the time since her injury, which they estimate to be a 1 1/2 weeks or so, surgery is not her best option because she's already healing. Instead, medical management is t he way to go. That means she will be kept on strict kennel rest and pain meds for 4-6 weeks. If she is going to gain mobility, we should see it within this time. And if she does, they feel like she should also gain her bladder function. Ideal situation!! So, we made a decision to keep her at Texas A&M at least for 2 weeks for them to monitor her, do light rehab (since they want her to keep pretty still), and eliminate her bladder multiple times a day. She's now back in Houston and we deperately need a foster home for her! She cannot go to boarding!! IIn about 3 weeks we will assess getting her into a wheelchair. She's so sweet and very determined. She loves being around other dogs too! If you are interested in adopting this beautiful girl, please contact us right away at info@scoutshonor.org.

    Truman

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Labrador Retriever
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Senior
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever (medium coat). Meet our newest kiddo rescued from BARC - Truman! Gentle Truman was picked up as a stray and surprisingly was microchipped, but his "family" never bothered to come for him. Truman is a gentle older guy who is looking for a home where he can relax and live the good life. He's about 6 or 7 years old, and as you can see, he has not had an easy time of it. We really need one of our labby lovers to step forward and take this great boy into their home. Sweet Truman is a serious lover! He is great with everyone and every dog he meets. He rides great in the car too!

    King

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Labrador Retriever
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Senior
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). Meet King, a 15-year-old lab that was dumped at the pound by his "owner". He has a massive basketball sized tumor between his front two legs that impedes his ability to walk. His owner claimed she had no money or transportation to do anything about this basketball-sized tumor impeding her dog’s walking. Amazingly she was able to dump him at the pound so he could die alone. This didn’t happen overnight!! King is as sweet and goofy as they come. It's sickening that he’s been forced to carry this horrendous appendage around like a ball and chain. King is 15, but he sure doesn’t act it. This boy has plenty of pep to this step. He such a sweetheart and would be such an easy foster! He's doing great and is in a foster home. His surgery went very well and we just received all of the biopsy results. Pretty good news overall, but we are definitely thankful that we had the large mass on his chest and the tumor that was found when he was neutered removed. Turns out the large mass on his chest was a mast cell tumor but our vets got clean margins, so we are optimistic that we got everything and it had not spread. The tumor on one of his testicles was a Sertoli tumor – biggest concern for spreading elsewhere – to prostate and/or surrounding lymph nodes. 10-14% of these metastasize. Our vets got complete excision with clean margins. We know he feels a million times better now that he is able to walk without the obstruction of the large mass. He is such a sweetheart! Now, we need to find this great boy a forever home to live out his years. Please complete an adoption app at www.scoutshonor.org.

    Maggie 2

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Labrador Retriever
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). Maggie is a beautiful girl she is very submissive and loves the attention of her humans. Maggie gets along very well with other dogs unless the other dog shows signs of aggression toward her. Maggie loves the attention she gets from children she is like a sponge. We have fell in love with her and would keep her but unfortunately we have our own dogs who has not accepted her into the pack. I promise you, You will fall head over hills in love with her. Maggie was rescued July 4, 2014, scared into a garage by fireworks. She had the look of a girl who had been on her own for a while. Her foster was surprised 17 days later with a litter of 14 puppies! Maggie has turned out to be a pretty mellow girl. She has been attacked by dogs in the past so she can be defensive if she feels threatened by a dog, but otherwise gets along fine with them. She loves to run and play in a big open area or in the back yard she will play with her human other dogs or alone.Maggie also likes her walks she presently walks twice a day. Maggie loves to go for long rides and spa dates. MAGGIE will do well with a single person or family with children and maybe up to one or two other dogs. Maggie is very loveable. She does have a huge fear of fireworks, thunder or anything resembling those sounds. The adoption fee includes vet check, vaccinations, Bordetella, de-worming, rabies, spay/neuter and microchip. There is a an additional $12.99 fee for Home Again for a lifetime registration of the microchip. It is against the law in the State of Texas for a rescue not to be sterilized so we have to make sure it gets completed and that we have record of it. NOTE: In our bios, we provide information based on our volunteer's experience with a particular dog; such as temperament, training, and ability to get along with others. AARF is a 501(c)3 Non Profit, all breed, no kill organization. Our group is always in need of donations in order to continue to give the needed medical care to our rescues. Adoption fees do not begin to cover all of the medical costs. Any donation, no matter how small is a big help and is greatly appreciated. Please help us to continue to help them. Thank you.
