    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Bloodhound (short coat). Please take the time to read the entire profile. We spend alot of time putting as much info in them as possible. Thank you in advance. Barney- Barney would love a home of his own. He loves to give someone sad puppy eyes and knows that he would do great in a home that would love him for the stubborn sniffer he is! Please help find this amazing guy a home! He is a great dog and really just keeps getting over looked. We adore the big lug and he would love a home where he can be the amazing dog we know he is. He is a great dog who is typical of a bloodhound who didnt have alot of training when he was young. Barney is a sweet blood hound boy. He is amazing and he is huge but getting a little weight help as he came to us about 50 lbs over where he needed to be. He is a great dog and a stunning red fawn color with super floppy ears and face. He is a great dog who needs a home that will spend time with him and let him be part of the family. He is a great dog and we adore him. He is shy at first as he was mostly and outside dog who was not given any rules or training. It seems him and his brother were just left in a back yard for 90% of the time. No one did anything with them so they didnt know how to be part of the family. He is a blood hound and they can be a bit stubborn, to say it nicely. So he needs a family that can love him through his stubborn-ness. Barney has been in rescue for so long and really wants a home of his own. Barney came to us from his past owner. He had purchased him and his brother from a breeder. Sadly as they grew the dogs were no longer allowed in their house and they were banished to outside. These two became bonded to each other and were never trained. When the family decided that it was time to get them into a different home Barneys brother went to a home, and he did not. He was depressed with out him and confused. A big dog with no training is hard to find a home for. He is going to need a home that can keep working with him like we have. He has learned to be a bully in his old home as his owners method for training was if he misbehaved to just leave him alone. So barney was never told to do anything! He has gotten much better but needs a hound savy owner who will work with him and not let him bully his way through things. Barney is a great dog. He is happy go lucky and loves to have a good time. He is a charmer and we adore the big lug. But he is timid at first with new people and situations as he never knew anything but his own back yard and brother. He would love a family to show him the rest of the world is not a bad situation and that he can be a happy go lucky guy. He loves to cuddle and be a great dog. He just needs a chance to see the world for what it is. He has had such a bad run so far he deserves so much better. He does best in a home with no small kids and can be protective over food with other dogs. He does great with them as long as they are not fed together. He will need a home experienced with a pushy larger dog. As he is used to getting his way and can be a bully if you do not have firm rules. He is a great dog and everything a bloodhound is ment to be, however he will need a good owner to show that. He would do amazing in a hound experienced home. Barney is up to date, dewormed, flea treated and has been altered. He is a happy healthy guy with no known health issues other then being a little over weight. We adore his happy jiggly self. He doesn’t seem to have any health issues that we have seen and is a happy healthy guy. As with all blood hounds he needs someone who can keep on top of his ears being cleaned and drool wiped up. He is a charmer. He is house broken, crate trained and does ok on leash. He does need walked in a training collar of or will pull. He is a great dog. He will guard food so a home with out small kids or he has to be fed away from them. He is a great boy who needs a good home and would love a family who would help him. We spend a lot of time trying to get to know the dogs in our program as best as we can. This means that we have spent time introducing them to dogs, cats, kids, animals, people and as many things as we can. We try to do as much as we can to evaluate them, both with in our group and if the dogs come from other rescues or shelters their evaluations as well. However dogs are individuals and will react to different situations differently. This means that we do not know how a dog will react in every situation. We give out our best guess based off information provided but the handler of a dog and the way they are introduced to a situation makes a huge impact. So if you have any questions of how to introduce a dog to your home, please let us know and we will provide as much info as we can from pamphlets to helping find a trainer in your area. Our rescue aims to help dogs who are passed by and over looked by most rescues and people. We help the dogs who are in need of medical care, vetting, training and breeds that most will not help with. In most shelters if you are large dog, a big dog, or a male dog; from the moment you walk in you are on barrowed time. If you have docked ears or are a guardian breed your time was over before you walked in the doors. We aim to save these dogs and give them a second chance. Please help us save more lives by helping with our medical bills as they grow. This year has already been hard and we have many medical dogs in need. https://www.gofundme.com/v2eap2f8 If you would like to adopt this pet please send us an email. Applications will be sent to you via email. We do our best to get back to emails in 24 hrs. If it has been longer then that please resend another email. We would love to hear from you. We welcome any questions that you may have. Our goal is to find the right fit for every home, not just any home! We have been informed that some of the links to email us regarding our adoptable dogs are not working. This has been on going for a few weeks with petfinder and a few other links. If you find this to be an issue that you are having please send an email directly to us at: RisingPhoenixWa@aol.com If you are inquiring on a specific pet we do ask that you put the name of the pet in the subject line. So we know who it is that you are inquiring regarding. Thank you in advance for understanding as we work through this. As with any rescue we are always in need of donations. MANY of our dogs come in with special needs or medical issues. These need to be resolved before going home. If you would like to make a donation toward a dogs medical care you can use our paypal address RisingPhoenixWa@aol.com you can also email us for a physical address. We are always in need of dog food, soft food for some of our special needs dogs, collars, leashes, crates, and toys!

Posted Breed: Bloodhound / Catahoula Leopard Dog. This beautiful baby girl is ready for her forever home. She looks Hound, however, she has Catahoula as well in her genes, so she has lots of energy and will need a person who has the time to devote in exercising her. Georgia loves toys! She is very spoiled and would like to live in the style she has become accustomed to. As of 4/28/17, she is 17 weeks young. Has already started on heartworm prevention, UTS on shots, will be microchipped, and spayed prior to adoption.

Posted Breed: Bloodhound. Male, 2-3 years, 70+ lbs Approximate Age: 2-3 years Approximate Weight/Size: 70+ lbs. I am an UNDERDOG because.... I am a hound mix! Hound breeds are very prominent in the rural south and usually the first to be euthanized at the shelter due to the overpopulation of this breed. Current Location? Foster in DC Good with: Dogs Not tested with: Kids, Cats Special Needs Notes: Additional info: Erik Northound is an approximately 3 year old bloodhound who was surrendered by his/her owners when they could no longer care for him/her. His profile will be updated once we are able to learn more about him! This dog is heartworm positive. Heartworm Disease is a parasitic disease transmitted by mosquitoes. It is treatable, not contagious to humans and cannot be transmitted from dog to dog. Heartworm is easily prevented by giving the dog a preventive medication once a month, but unfortunately in the rural areas where most of our dogs are rescued from, prevention of diseases is not a high priority. Heartworms slowly grow in the dog’s heart and arteries over months and years of infection. The good news is that hundreds of previously heartworm positive dogs have gone on to lead normal, healthy lives post-treatment. RDR will arrange the treatment of the heartworm and coordinate all expenses. The treatment we use is recommended by the AVMA and requires a series of 3 shots over a 2 month period with very limited activity for the dog. It is the responsibility of the adopter to drive and pick-up the dog to and from Howl to the Chief for the 2 visits (one is overnight). Please bear this in mind when you apply to adopt this dog. The following are the phases of treatment. Our dogs are usually in phase one or two. More information will provided upon request. Phase 1: Oral Medication First, the dog will undergo 30 days of antibiotic treatment, which is an oral medication called doxycycline. During this time, the dog’s exercise is not severely restricted but it is advised to avoid strenuous activity with your dog so as not to strain the heart. Sometimes the dogs are started on the antibiotic treatment while in a foster home. Phase 2: Injections (Series of three) The second phase of treatment entails a series of three shots to be administered by a veterinarian. The first shot is administered upon completion of the oral medication and then the second and third are administered 30 days later on back-to-back days. The dog will also be prescribed pain medication after the shots are administered. Adoption Application: http://bit.ly/adoptrdr Mission Statement: Forever true to “The Underdog”, Rural Dog Rescue is dedicated to saving the lives of dogs in shelters who are often overlooked for adoption or rescue. We save the dogs who are at most risk of being euthanized: the hounds, the black dogs, the seniors, the sick and the broken. We make a commitment to reserve a minimum of 50% of the dogs we save to The Underdog. Root For The Underdog! Rural Dog Rescue's home base is in Washington, DC. We adopt to the Washington, DC metropolitan area to include Maryland and Northern Virginia. We support several high kill shelters that euthanize in 72 hours and whose kill rate is 70% or higher in rural areas of Virginia, West Virginia, North and South Carolina. Rural Dog Rescue also helps dogs in need in Washington, DC and Maryland. We are 100% volunteer and foster based and no salaries are paid. 100% of your donation and adoption fee goes to helping the dogs and cats of Rural Dog Rescue. Although we try to be as accurate as possible, Rural Dog Rescue cannot guarantee the breed or full-grown adult size of any of the dogs or puppies in its care. Because many of these dogs were found as strays or are the result of irresponsible, unplanned breeding, we do not know the dog's exact background and can only list breed and size by our best educated guess. If exact breed and size are important to you, please consider adopting a dog from a specific breed rescue - We want our dogs to be adopted by people who will love and care for them forever for who they are - no matter what breed and size they turn out to be! All dogs go to their new homes spayed or neutered, up to date on all shots, wormed (although a 2nd worming may be required), started on heart worm and flea and tick preventative and sometimes microchipped. Adoption Application: http://bit.ly/adoptrdr Foster Application: http://bit.ly/rdrfosterapp Adoption Process: In order to adopt, we require an adoption application. After you submit an application, if you pass the screening, we will contact you to schedule a phone interview. We will call your references, including your veterinarian and landlord (when appropriate). We will also conduct a home visit. After these steps are complete, you will be approved to adopt a dog. Please note this process takes 1-2 weeks so applications submitted when you are ready to bring a dog home within that time frame. You can meet our adoptable dogs at events, however, we cannot guarantee that dogs at events do not have pre-approved applicants meeting them there as well, so the application is the best way to start the process. Posted Breed: Bloodhound (short coat). Another Senior BloodHound Dinga is a super sweet 8 year old Bloodhound. She was turned into the Maricopa Animal Shelter by an ex wife who said she wasn't good with children. Not sure where that came from, but she is sure great with children here! Being great family dogs is part of the hound personality, we think it was just vindictiveness unfortunately. People do nasty things to get even with ex spouses. Dinga is 8 years old, she is used to being in the house, she is a typical hound couch potato. She loves to go outside, she likes walks and she doesn't appear to have any health issues. She is her foster mom's best friend. Dinga is located in south east Arizona. The foster mom takes frequent trips to Tucson and occasional trips to Phoenix for meet and greets. Please come meet this beautiful girl and give her the real forever honme she deserves. 602-316-8919 (no texts please)
