No two Bernedoodles are identical. The genes from the parent breeds meld in unique ways, and it’s endlessly fascinating to see what each litter produces. That said, prospective owners must understand that there can be a lot of variation in a hybrid litter, and must therefore choose a breeder that can help match them with the best dog for their circumstances.

German Shepherd Dog

The German Shepherd is unmatched in character and courage. These dogs make great companions because they are loyal and have the heightened senses of an excellent watch dog. At the same time, they can be gentle and playful companions for children.

The Golden Pyrenees is a hybrid or designer breed that was developed by crossing Golden Retriever and a Great Pyrenees. Though the breed was intended to be a 50/50 mix, many of the Golden Pyrenees are bred over many generations and may not always be 50% and 50%. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

The Shih-Poo is a mix between the Poodle and the Shih Tzu. The pups can have the temperament of either breed. Some are better tempered than others.

Labrenees

Labrenees or Pyrador is the mix of one large-sized dog; the Great Pyrenees and one medium-sized dog; Labrador Retriever. As a hybrid, it has better quality than its parent breeds as the traits and characteristics are mixed. These are very large dogs that are typically more cooperative and trainable than the Great Pyrenees, but more discriminating and naturally protective than the Labrador Retriever.
