A mongrel, mixed-breed dog

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

Chihuahua

The Chihuahua is a tiny bundle of joy. Kids love him ' and for good reason. This breed seems always excited about something. They do best as an indoor dog, but they love to scamper around in the yard ' in suitable weather.

Australian Shepherd

The Australian Shepherd is intelligent and very loyal to his owner. He's a working dog, though, so he does best when his owner gives him a job to do ' such as herding livestock.

The Bullboxer Pit is a cross between an Boxer and a American Pit Bull Terrier. The Bullboxer Pit is a hybrid or designer breed that was developed by crossing Boxer and a American Pit Bull Terrier. Though the breed was intended to be a 50/50 mix, many of the Bullboxer Pit are bred over many generations and may not always be 50% and 50%. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. The Raggle is a cross between an Beagle and a Rat Terrier. The Raggle is a hybrid or designer breed that was developed by crossing Beagle and a Rat Terrier. Though the breed was intended to be a 50/50 mix, many of the Raggle are bred over many generations and may not always be 50% and 50%. Labrenees

Labrenees or Pyrador is the mix of one large-sized dog; the Great Pyrenees and one medium-sized dog; Labrador Retriever. As a hybrid, it has better quality than its parent breeds as the traits and characteristics are mixed. These are very large dogs that are typically more cooperative and trainable than the Great Pyrenees, but more discriminating and naturally protective than the Labrador Retriever.

French Bulldog

The French Bulldog is low key and enjoys lots of activity. He's well suited for either family living or attaching to just one special person. He can be a great watchdog, although will bark only when there is a real need.

The Chug is a mix between the Chihuahua and the Pug. Both breeds need to be near their owners. Chugs are best for owners who are home most of the day.

The Pekingese, named for the Chinese city of Peking (now known as Beijing), requires weekly brushing of their luxurious coat. Happy little dogs, this breed can make a terrific pet for families and is well-suited for apartment life.
