    Breed: Australian Shepherd-Unknown Mix

Posted Breed: Australian Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Saya! Saya is a beautiful girl with a heart of gold who was transferred to us after being rescued from a breeding & hoarding situation. She's already had numerous litters in her short lifetime but now she is able to simply enjoy life and be pampered! Saya is very sweet and will give you lots of kisses and cuddles and happily follows her humans anywhere. Since being in her foster home she has learned about living in a house (instead of a pen) and absolutely adores anyone who is kind and offering treats! She gets nervous in new spaces so she needs some time in a calm atmosphere to settle into new homes and routines. Saya also gets pretty agitated around cats so she would need to either be kept away from feline friends or very closely monitored. Pretty Saya is still learning how stairs, kennels, and cars work so she might need coaxing or to be carried when she gets too fearful but at only 39lbs she is easy to maneuver. Are you looking for a wonderful and loyal friend who will adore you everyday, no matter what? Well, then Saya is for you! Apply to meet her today! Breed: Rottweiler
    Sex: Male Male
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Rottweiler / Cane Corso Mastiff (short coat). This dog is NOT in the care of Big Sky Rottweiler Rescue, he is being listed as a courtesy to get more adoption exposure. It will have to be the right home for the dog with someone who has extensive knowledge with this Dominant breed. Please contact Filip at the shelter contact info below. April 13 Steve has been walking Cope every day. Steve gave him extra dog food yesterday, along with many nutritious snacks. Despite how hungry he is, he’s not food aggressive. Steve had his hand in the dog bowl with the food and Cope could’ve cared less. Cope did his very first volunteer down. He is ready to jet out of there, but the fact he went down brought tears to our eyes. We took him back to a full shelter with crazed dogs across and beside him. He sat in the kennel like a good boy. He does not bark or growl like many of the other dogs who hit their front panel. April 10 Our Big Sky Volunteers continue to work with Cope and he has improved tremendously. Today was Steve’s first day by himself. Last weekend I had Steve enter the kennel and get Cope’s collar on and bring him out both days. Today, Steve said that Cope was wiggling and excited to see him. Steve was in the kennel getting Cope ready and someone Steve knew came up to the kennel. This was not a volunteer and was a stranger to Cope. Cope woofed once, the same as he did when he first saw Steve…it is an announcement woof, like “I haven’t seen you before and you are new.” Steve told him it was ok, had him sit, and spoke to the fellow through the kennel panel. Cope had no issues. This is very good news. When Steve returned to the shelter from their walk, the outside door to the kennels was locked. Steve had to go through the office and it was busy today. He said there were six people, along with a dog on a leash, and a barking dog behind a closed door. He and Cope meandered through the group with no problems. At the entryway into the kennels, Steve stopped. With no instruction, Cope sat down. Steve gave him a few boiled eggs, chicken, steak, and a stick of cheese today. Cope continues to be a good boy. April 7 More steak bites today and a boiled egg. Cope looks like he lost more weight. I tossed snowballs for him and he liked that. Doesn’t appear he has ever been played with. He cannot handle a heavy handed owner. He has needed limited, light correction with a chain collar (not prong) and he gets it. I think about how easily he turned away from the parking lot lady with timing & correct read on dog. I’m amazed at how tender & sensitive he is. April 4 update We took a break to give Cope some relief in middle of week. He had a growling, barking dog next to his kennel and did not react at all to all the room chaos as I put his collar on. Walked out of kennel area like a champ. It was another good interaction with him. Is doing well with call backs on long line. Went on his own to Steve for several good body rubs today. I’m not seeing any negative behaviors from him yet, but we are walking him in neutral territory. His demeanor in a very active shelter is wonderful. Despite incredible distraction, I can get him to sit at door entrances with encouraging prompts and look to me for further direction. He is a very strong, untrained boy that overall seems pretty happy and just wants to please. It is easy to take the time from our schedules to provide him relief. He is a good boy. The time we spend with this dog just makes him better and that is our goal. The walks are helping with stress level. He returns to the shelter much calmer. Hopefully someone will come along and has the ability to put the training on him so he can live a good, loved life. April 1 Update No pulling, and really likes the whole possibility of reward. Little correction was needed today. Working on him not jumping up on the walker. He remembered me and greated me with kisses and a paw out to shake We spent some Easter with Cope today. Steve did well with him. Steve is a big guy at 6’2 and 260...initially Cope was a little wary of him, but warmed right up to him with plenty of steak pieces. Look how food driven he is. This is what one of our volunteers said during an evalutaion of him. I met Copenhagen (Cope) today. He was neutered on Thursday. The director, Filip, brought Cope out of his kennel and into the main lobby with him wiggling his butt and very interested in his surroundings. I had high value treats on me and he cuddled up to me instantly. We went into a side room, sat down, and Filip told me what he knew. Cope settled down by me and did not appear distressed. It appears to be a mother-daughter ownership. The older woman had the dog for about a year and confirmed that Cope is mixed rottweiler with cane corso. She gave him to her daughter, who had him for one month, and then surrendered him to the shelter saying she could no longer have a dog. At that time, Cope had crashed through a house window, but the daughter said she didn't know why. There were no other incidents reported to Filip. Cope was in the shelter two weeks, handled by various shelter volunteers, male and female, with no incident. He has had no confrontations with the other dogs. Filip found a male foster to take Cope and I spoke to the foster about his two weeks there. The foster has a girlfriend, 12 yoa daughter, two indoor cats and livestock. Cope cuddled and had no issues or signs of aggression in the house. The foster and his girlfriend took Cope to Murdochs (farm store) twice. They placed an e-collar on Cope, went inside, did a meet & greet with the cashier, and walked around. While the foster was looking at merchandise, a toddler quickly came around the corner and went right up to Cope, placing his hand on Cope's muzzle. Cope did not react and the couple left. The next day they returned to Murdochs. Same young male cashier that had petted Cope the day before came around the counter, took his hat off, and reached out to pet him. Cope, with no warning, went into attack mode. The foster's girlfriend had the dog's lead, and with good strength was able to pull him away before he bit the cashier. The foster applied the e-collar shock and it did not deter Cope's behavior. Later that week, the foster took the dog out with him to see the lambs. The dog was not on a lead. The lambs ran and Cope went after one and grabbed its throat. The foster pried his jaws open and pulled him off. The dog never tried to bite the foster. The lamb survived. The final incident came when male friends came over to the house and Cope reacted aggressively, not letting the men in. The foster could not control him. Cope went back to the shelter. The foster now knows he did not have the skills to handle him. He said that Cope was very loveable toward him despite the mishandlings. As FIlip told me the story, several volunteers that Cope knew came in and out of the room and he wagged his butt and went to greet them. My friend and I then took Cope on an hour walk with a long lead. He is very smart and with gentle lead correction, quickly learned not to pull. He responded better to physical signals and voice than to voice alone. He has no manners, but knew sit, and learned to shake very quickly. He is very food driven and took treats gently. He was eager to please, and leaned into me for several good body rubs. When we returned to the shelter there was a woman standing in the parking lot watching us. My friend went ahead and the woman stopped her saying the dog was too much for anyone to handle and I shouldn't be handling him. The woman was loud and pointed at us. Cope began to bristle and I could see he was agitated, but no barking or growling. I turned around walking the other direction. He followed me and did not attempt to lunge or go back towards her. My friend asked the woman to leave and we reached the shelter without incident. The woman was a volunteer at the shelter and Filip was advised of Cope's reaction to her from a distance. I asked Filip about his gut feeling regarding Cope. He felt a specific person had to have Cope with knowledgeable handling skills and understanding of liability. He has taken him off the adoption list and hopes he can find a rescue or law enforcement agency to take him. He is a lot of dog and two years old. He is an untrained, unsocialized dog that gave great kisses. If you are interested in this boy and have knowledge and skills for this breed, contact the information below. This dog will not go to just anyone as he will not be set up to fail. Filip Panusz Shelter Director Mission Valley Animal Shelter P.O. Posted Breed: Shepherd (medium coat). Don't let his "Blue Steel" photo shoot face fool you, Chase is a happy super-doofus. When he's not ripping off Zoolander with his dashing model serious poses, Chase LOVES to play some light wrestling/bitey-face/bitey-legs/ or chase with other dogs. In fact, he will be best with another dog(s) who also love to play. He'll need someone with a 6ft fence and patient with a husky-ish puppy type personality but you will be rewarded with a stellar dog who meets strangers and other dogs like they are already his best friend....as well as an established modeling portfolio. Breed: Rottweiler
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Rottweiler (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 300.00. Dallas is pretty stressed with his move from Kansas to WY plus he is recently neutered and is not a happy camper at the moment. He is fearful of his surroundings, but not aggressive. He will growl when uncomfortable. Dallas is a sweet boy who has lived with female boxer. They got along well and he does well with other larger female dogs. he was an owner surrender due to moving and they couldn’t take him with them. He would not be good with small dogs or cats. He does need a few days to de-stress when he gets to a new place but then he is very gentle and loving. He is a great dog.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Knightly! This young, handsome boy would love to be someone's walking, hiking or jogging buddy. Knightly is crate trained and house trained. He should be crated when you are away for the day, as he is still has some puppy tendencies and will get into trouble if left unattended for long periods of time. Knightly enjoys the company of other dogs that aren't too demanding in their play style. He prefers to just hang out, and not constantly play or wrestle, although he's always down for a good game of tug-o-war! He is good with cats, but should be supervised, he also does well with chidlren. Knightly is a shy kiddo, especially with men, and takes a little time to warm up. Treats help speed up the process though! Car rides are pretty new to him, and they make him quite nervous. He will need some practice to realize the car takes him to do fun stuff! He is smart and eager to please, and would greatly benefit from a solid routine, and gentle and consistent training. If you have time to give Knightly the time, exercise and attention he deserves, apply to meet him today!
